Stenger's stance is very misguided.

The events of Ferguson should have accelerated the conversation on re-joining the city and county (in one manner or another), not changed it.

How can you look at the events of Ferguson and not think of consolidation? Pitiful.

Stenger is such a two face. He never intended to support a the reentry of the City into the County. At least Stream was honest, even if he was a little nuts.

Post-DIspatch has a nice editorial calling out Stenger...

http://www.stltoday.com/news/opinion/co ... 81813.html

On Tuesday morning, he told Better Together, the nonprofit group that is studying all of these issues, to take a hike.

It was a thoughtless, short-sighted move by a politician who hasn’t yet demonstrated the sort of leadership that is required in the very important job he holds....

Besides showing a lack of leadership by not supporting intense study of one of the most important issues facing the region — its continued division — the way Mr. Stenger separated himself from Better Together displayed a certain not-ready-for-prime-time demeanor.

What the Twin Cities know, St Louis should learn.

^ This is best comment from the article. Sitting here in MSP with my son waiting on our connecting flight to Cali after he got a chance to visit is grandma in St. Louis.

In St. Louis, too many of us, individuals and communities alike, are in it for ourselves. If that’s not working too well for the future of the region, well, that’s the future’s problem.

Why?

Read Sherpa column and comments from PD. I'm at a loss for the whole point of his article other than to gloat and feed the city/county divide for a pile of hits.

I wish he'd get over the "millennials cried about unplowed streets" myth. Calls came from all over the city surely spanning all ages and household type.

I really wish I hadn't clicked on the link and gave his article another "hit". It stinks that he's one of the more featured voices in our region's newspaper.

Dumb, dumb, dumb

StlToday - St. Louis County could seek sales tax for law enforcement under House plan
The bill also includes a provision that would revamp the system of pooling St. Louis County sales taxes and divvying up the money among cities and county government.

Will the Missouri Legislature ever find a problem that a sales tax increase won't fix?

StlToday - Editorial: Debate over sales and police taxes highlights region's dysfunction
This month, the nonprofit Better Together organization that is studying government dysfunction in the St. Louis region found that public safety costs are significantly higher here per capita than in two comparable cities, Louisville and Indianapolis.

^ wow. this region is just looking more and more pathetic. i wonder if there is any level of embarrassment that will cause these dysfunctional county munis to finally concede to disincorporation/merger. it doesn't seem so.

I don't understand how you can impeach a mayor that was just elected over dubious claims of voter fraud.

“We citizens of Kinloch have to live in horrible conditions. There is one apartment complex that hasn’t had trash pickup in a year and a half,” she told HuffPost.
But hey, never say die!

Looks like Monday is the big day for SB5. If it passes we'll see some towns go away, but first they'll try to raise fines, fees, and licenses for non-traffic stuff. Hopefully that will piss off enough people who then realize this system is broken and wasteful.

Yes, and they use St. Louis as the contrasting dysfunctional example with respect to poor regionalism.

The most important part of the bill.

Cities in St. Louis County would be required to meet minimum standards, such as producing an annual balanced budget, commissioning an annual audit by a certified public accountant and having adequate liability insurance for city workers. A city could face a disincorporation vote for failing to meet minimum standards.

I predict by the 2020 we will have considerably less municipalities in St. Louis County.
