17 north county municipalities look for approval on a 1% sales tax increase to fund road maintenance. In some cities, this will push the sales tax over 10%.
The 17 cities in the proposed district are Bellerive Acres, Bel-Nor, Beverly Hills, Greendale, Hanley Hills, Hillsdale, Normandy, Norwood Court, Pagedale, Pasadena Hills, Pasadena Park, Pine Lawn, Uplands Park, Velda City, Velda Village Hills, Vinita Park and Wellston.
Have any of these munis considered that if they merged, they could eliminate most of their governments and merge under one and then use the excess money to fund road maintenance?
Yeah but then they wouldn't have control over their little fiefdoms and feel like they have some sort of power.Auggie wrote: ↑Aug 06, 2025Have any of these munis considered that if they merged, they could eliminate most of their governments and merge under one and then use the excess money to fund road maintenance?
These small micro-munis know they shouldn't exist. They know they're mere workaround subdivisions. They exist because they're rooted...*tada* in the St Louis regions ever present restrictive deed covenant history. There will never be a "greater good" thought coming out of any of them, because it would fly in the face of their desire to remain independently governed. I've always been for a hostile takeover scenario where they're either absorbed into the county or city forcefully. Mmmmmm.......a boy can tyranically dream.
I was hoping the cap on revenues for fines and fees would force them to merge or disincorporate. Boy was I wrong. "Never say die!"

I strongly believe these small cities everywhere are highly inefficient. I'm happy living in unincorporated St Louis County

I saw that Dellwood sent in their own snowplow & salt trucks to Riverview.... As a favor, the right thing to do, etc.
Was this a pure act of kindness or is Dellwood saying "hey look what we can do for you Riverview. Come join us". With all of the turmoil with the mayor being in jail & the city's services failing, who knows if Dellwood could be eying Riverview. I could be totally off & I understand I am reading into it a lot, over an "act of kindness", but rarely is there not an underlying motive in politics.

Hope springs eternal, but these walking dead munis have a never say die spirit.

Dellwood and Riverview are not contiguous.DogtownBnR wrote: ↑7:14 PM - Jan 29I saw that Dellwood sent in their own snowplow & salt trucks to Riverview.... As a favor, the right thing to do, etc.
