^^Welcome aboard, Suds! And even if you've presumably been here a few years now, a belated welcome to St. Louis. There's absolutely room for more good lawyers in town, and I for one welcome fresh perspectives on how to make our fair city function better for St. Louisans old and new. Here's to hoping we pull off a forum meetup again sometime soon. Preferably over something sudsy.

I've been around this site for years but never registered - so here I am!

What brought me to STL: The Old North St. Louis Restoration Group in August 2014 via the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
Why am I still in STL?: Because you can't beat the neighbors in Old North (or the ice cream).

^^^Welcome aboard ONSL_Jess! Old North, and by extension the entire town is lucky to have some dedicated folks like you working on the place. (I really need to drag myself up there for something other than taking train pictures.) Looking forward to your stories and contributions from way way down on the other side of town. Welcome!

I didn't know this thread existed. I'm Jacob, I'm 19, and I'm currently attending Missouri State University and I'm majoring in technology and construction management. I'm from Fenton, but have plans of moving downtown after college. I love the architecture, development, and the food in St. Louis. I have no plans on leaving. I also love giving people tours around the city and displaying how truly underrated this place really is.

Welcome, I was there 2004-2008 and had most of my classes in Temple Hall (community and regional planning major). Lived in Freddy freshman year and Hammons sophomore before moving to downtown Springfield for final 2.
And currently live on the border of downtown and downtown west

Hi, everyone! I'm Jake. I am 25. I graduated from Drury University with an architecture degree in 2021 and am a designer out in Wentzville. I currently live in Florissant and have all of my life. I am a runner and have run in 85-90% of the neighborhoods in the city. I have learned an astounding amount about St. Louis within the last few years, with its amazing examples of architecture, urbanism, and sociology. It is incredible to me that I have not been exposed to any of it growing up in the suburbs, actually taught to stay away. But now, I am intending to move into the city in the near future!

Welcome! I was also your prototypical suburban St. Louisan growing up. Then I moved to KC for over a decade and realized how much better we have it here. Glad to see you figured it out like I did!

Welcome aboard and I look forward to your work helping to make our city better. And I apologize in advance for my sometimes cranky attitude about questions of style or infrastructure. Welcome aboard! I hope you enjoy it. (Most of the time we play nice.)

Hi everyone,

Happy new year. I'm Chris and moved to the city in 2016. I apparently made an account here in 2018 (!) and promptly forgot about it. I am from the SF Bay Area and came here for work (fintech) but studied urban geography in college. I recently left my fintech job and, since I moved here, have gotten married and had 2 gorgeous daughters. My passion for urbanism has been reignited since leaving the corporate world and I am excited to continue to lurk and participate in this board as it makes sense for me.

I think STL is a classic American city for all the reasons many of you have mentioned in previous posts. I want to help make the city better, and I'm not exactly sure what that means or how to do it, but as I look for new work avenues I hope to bump into some of you fellow urbanists. Cheers!

Hi everyone, my name is Drew Behrens, and I’m a proud native of St. Louis. I originally introduced myself when I joined this forum back in 2019, but for those who don’t know me, I have a degree in Community and Regional Planning from Missouri State University and work full-time in the LIHTC industry, specializing in valuation services. I’m also a part-time real estate agent with a deep love for our city and a strong desire to see it thrive.

I’m curious—does anyone currently provide historical property packets for homes in St. Louis? Something that includes details like the original owner, historical significance, old photos, maps, and other unique stories tied to the property? I’d love to offer something like this as a gift in my real estate transactions.

If you or someone you know has experience researching and compiling this kind of historical information, I’d love to connect. Feel free to reach out to me at thedrewgroupstl@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!

You should talk to the Neil & Veronica Putz. They run the Historical Committee of the Soulard Restoration Group neighborhood association and produce packets similar to what you mention.

You might reach out to Erica Thren, who runs the Found St. Louis account on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/found.stlouis ... I1OW5rcw==

She has offered on Instagram to do research on peoples' homes in the past, and the stuff she's posted publicly has been pretty good. Not sure if she'd do anything like that as a professional service but might be worth an ask at least.

Hello everyone! Before I begin, I must confess that I am not currently a resident of St. Louis, but am an avid admirer of the city and follow development updates regularly. Anyway, I found urbanSTL a little while back and have been "lurking" until now. It's been a great resource to learn about various projects, proposals, and events in St. Louis. My particular interest in St. Louis is Downtown, and while I am aware of its problems, I have a positive outlook on its progress. My visit to St. Louis 2 years ago was what really got me interested in architecture, and my second visit (this past year) was just as inspiring and even more fun. I hope to be a city resident in the future.

In addition to St. Louis and architecture, one of my other interests (near-obsessions 🙃) is ragtime music, hence my username. That was a main reason for my first trip to your city, as I was on my way to the Scott Joplin Festival in Sedalia. We stopped and toured the Scott Joplin House while in town too. St. Louis also has a rich ragtime history, which was another thing that sparked my interest in the city.

I mainly created an account here to post an idea I had pertaining to a N/S streetcar line connecting Downtown and Soulard, as that was being discussed in the "Metrolink Expansion?" topic. I'll share my idea there soon and would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions on it.

I tried to add a profile picture to my account on here, but it didn't seem to work. Maybe you have to be a higher-tier member to use profile pictures? I'll try again later.

Anyway, looking forward to discussing St. Louis stuff with you all!

^Welcome aboard from another musician. :) Yeah, we are proud of our musicians around here. If you didn't get the chance, a walk through the Delmar Loop to read all the plaques on the walk of fame is time well spent. Lots of great musicians. (Including, of course, Joplin, who was one of the very first inductees in 1989.)

^Thanks for the warm welcome! I appreciate it. It’s good to meet another musician. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the chance to walk through The Loop yet. Didn’t know Scott Joplin was one of the celebrities in the Walk of Fame! I’m definitely going to make The Loop a priority next time I visit.
