Ah, the glories of yesteryear... wait, this was taken 3/17/2020! The big Melbourne car went out for a test.

Wow! What year is this picture. I’ve lived in U-City since 1977. I knew there was a trolley turnaround loop (hence the name) here but I never realized the back parking lot behind the former Cicero’s building had adjacent buildings forming a street wall. I probably should have though seeing how big that lot is. I love how this photo perfectly frames the city hall building. Would be nice to still have this street intact.

I loves this map, especially since it represented the completion of Cross County, but: The worst mass transit map in the history of mass transit maps?

A couple more showing the building's around the actual streetcar loop (from the '50s and 1967 respectively):

Thought this was nice. The downtown lighting project and the wheel really give the Union Station Ditch a better feel at night.

Not really St. Louis (this is in Pacific, Mo.) and not really transit (these are looking across Pacific's train yard), but still, pretty cool that this storefront building from at least as long ago as the 1910's is still around:

I love how the closely parallel alignments make it look like the MoP and Frisco stormed through Pacific in the middle of a feud and stared at each other angrily, spike hammers raised, from opposite sides of a line painted on the ground dividing the town up.

What makes it even better is how close that really is to the truth.

A few more of the Wabash Station at Delmar - now Delmar Metrolink - from before, during and after the viaduct under Delmar was being dug and (particularly in the 3rd one) prior to the new station being built (which is there today).

^Tower 1, specifically. Of three. This was the central tower of the main throat and had what might have been the largest single interlocking machine in the world. (Union Station wasn't the largest station in the U. S., but it was in the top several, and it was reputedly the largest on one level, which made the throat unusually complicated.)

Anyway, there's a nifty trade article from the forties about replacing it in a hurry after the original tower was destroyed in a fire:

That thing was pretty dang famous! :)

I'm sure this has been posted here before, but I stumbled upon this today and found it very fascinating.  I hadn't seen it before.  A video of The Illinois Central Terminal in its heyday.  Lots of shots of the tunnels under Tucker and the lower levels of their still existing terminal station downtown.  Some great Hadley Street and Iron Horse Trestle shots too.  Really sad to see those buildings along Hadley...and those victorians you can see from the viaduct right before the video switches over to the McKinley Bridge...tisk tisk.

First four or five minutes are in the St. Louis area...the aforementioned areas, Granite City and a little bit of Edwardsville.  The rest is of other Central Illinois destinations...I added the second part if anyone is interested...the Danville shots are pretty sweet.

Neat-o. Amazing we had electrified intercity rail back in the day.

After discovering those videos, I kind of fell down a historic St. Louis transit rabbit hole.  Found some more pretty cool shots around the area, again forgive me if these have been posted.  I've been through this whole thread, but quite a few image links are broken or missing.

Streetcars approaching the historic Grand Viaduct, possibly during its construction:

The old 18th Street Viaduct (taken in 1984, at the time of this photo the bridge was open to pedestrians only...a new bridge for cars would be built in 1986).  Imagine if we had preserved this for people in addition to a new car crossing:

A double-decker bus in front of the Wabash Station on Delmar:

And lastly...a shot of the fill work at the old ICT tunnel under Tucker.  That's the old Star-Times (St. Patrick's Center) on the left, the subway station was in the next building down.

Glorious stuff, SC4Mayor. Sure, I've seen similar stuff before, but those are great pictures and I'm glad to see them. Love the video particularly, by the way. :)
