Which part of getting 2 of the top 6 rated players didn't you like? Both O and D lines are now set for a long time.
This was an EXCELLENT first day. Rams shouldn't lose many battles at the line of scrimmage. And the Rams front 4, and even front 7 will possibly be one of the most dominant you've ever seen. I'm really, really excited.
We still have weaknesses in the secondary, and unfortunately after the Rams picked Donald, there was a BIG run on CB and S. But some still remain. There's plenty of opportunity for the Rams to improve those, so I'm not going to let it hamper how excited I am about the two guys we got.

I don't mind the picks, line picks are always smart, but they need to pan out fast- no Jason Smiths, no 1-2 year wait for dominance like Quinn . I just mean that if we are going to pass on hot talent at positions we got burned at last year (secondary), then these guys have to have immediate big impact to compensate.
Right away some discussions were had about Robinson's technique being a little questionable. Our O line coach is one of the best so hopefully that can be addressed quickly. Our D line was already very strong and it didn't matter as teams adapted with quick passes and we gave up the highest passing completion in the league. G Williams should help all of this, and I realize I can't be upset with line picks, but to watch Pryor and Dix go was tough given our D back situation.
Really looking forward to this season, but honestly I think making playoffs is still very lofty. If that is the bar that the front office wants to set for "success" though, I'll gladly set my expectations accordingly.

I am happy that the Rams filled needs with the 2 best lineman in the draft. HOWEVER, I've always believed you can fill line spots in free agency, but you cannot typically get playmakers like Watkins in free agency, without paying a load of money against the cap. I think they need to generate excitement and sell tickets. These guys do not really accomplish that. The Browns sold over 1300 new season ticket packages, since drafting Manziel. I hope they can grab some diamonds in the rough, in later rounds. Tom Brady was a 6th rounder. There is always hope. I really wanted Watkins though. He was a game-breaker. Maybe Austin can become that. Time will tell...
The Rams really do have some excellent "potential" at WR. It would have been nice to have one of those "sure thing" guys like Watkins, I agree. But they MIGHT already have what they need. Britt, Bailey, Austin, Pettis, Givens, and Quick gives them a lot of high level ability and versatility—we just need to see them step up consistently.
Pettis will never be amazing, but he's consistent and solid. Quick has shown very little since being drafted, but at year 3, it's still not impossible he finally puts his tools to use.
And Britt, Bailey, Austin, and Givens have all had flashes of being really, really good at points in their careers of various lengths. If even just 2 of them can sustain that level of play instead of having it just be flashes, it will do wonders for the offense.
Can't count on it, but can certainly hope for it.

Having a crushing D line may be the only way the Rams can survive in the now-brutal NFC West.
If they can shore up that secondary at all (be it with new personnel or improved play in an improved system), I think they're going to be able to put up a good fight even in this division.dweebe wrote:Having a crushing D line may be the only way the Rams can survive in the now-brutal NFC West.
A healthy Bradford, a healthy Stacy, and a re-enforced line should lead to a consistently productive if not high-powered offense.
And the defense could be pretty lethal. The line may be dominant. Just have to avoid allowing the quick chunks of yardage in our secondary.

Last week i wasn't liking the fact of potentially adding a OT like Robinson but then started realizing that Bradford does have more than the potential to be a elite QB.. The guy came in when the Rams were absolutely the worse team in league history in a 5 year span.. The Rams have come a very long ways and Adding Robinson shores up a possibly very good running game also gives more time for Bradford to be mobile or find one of the potential receivers.. I love our defense and it should really give all teams fits.. I really feel like the Rams are on the verge of Building a very special team that will win for years. You don't need elite wide receivers to have a very good team... Aaron Donald is a excellent pick..im still going with 9-7 for next year
I liked Bernie's stat the other day that pointed out that despite all the accolades to the NFC West and how punishing the division is, the Rams record is better vs NFC West opponents than those outside the NFC West since Fisher's arrival. Not really sure if that bodes well or not.
Is it September yet? Still a whole summer of Cardinal Baseball to enjoy and analyze before then I suppose.....

Was this a publicity stunt or do they want him because he's a good player? I don't really know football.
He was the defensive player of the year in the toughest conference, the SEC. I don't believe they give our that award to benchwarmers.Gateway City wrote:Was this a publicity stunt or do they want him because he's a good player? I don't really know football.
I don't know much about football but this brought a lot of good national publicity for the Rams and our city. This can only be a good thing.
There are people throwing that theory around. That or the Rams were doing the NFL offices a favor to get in their good graces.Gateway City wrote:Was this a publicity stunt or do they want him because he's a good player? I don't really know football.
He didn't have a great combine. Pretty slow, etc. But hey, he's a 7th round pick. There's not much risk.Ebsy wrote:He was the defensive player of the year in the toughest conference, the SEC. Football is extremely boring to watch.blzhrpmd2 wrote:Ebsy, what kept you from going before?

This was not a publicity stunt and i think most teams avoided him because he came out and he didn't fit their schemes. Sam is one heck of a very good player and I'm rooting for him not cause he's gay but because he's a team player and wants to win.. I read so many beyond ignorant comments from people on different sites. Discrimination is alive and well and will never sadly go away. Oh speaking of history the Rams were the very first team to have a african american play in the NFL.. So yes history speaks for itself ...

I saw lots of people from other cities on the Rams facebook page saying they're going to become Rams fans now. It's great the team is making history. However, I want him to be a good player. This was a very progressive move, but what he does off the field isn't relevant. What matters most to the team isn't that he's gay, but that he can win.
Might have been better for him if he'd gone undrafted. Good luck making the roster with our depth.
He might make it if he can prove he'd be a worthwhile sub in for like 3rd and long situations.
But if he went undrafted he could have signed as a FA with anyone that wanted him. Dallas was being thrown around.
Nevertheless, I think the Rams are going to be massively improved this year. Over .500 record (for the first time in how long?) for sure. I do worry about our offense being shut down, and maybe our DB's, but thats it.

I have no idea what any of that means but if it's good then I'm happy with it.

I'm glad Michael Sam got drafted (and with the full blessing of staunch Republican Stan Kroenke and a front office full of likely conservatives no less!).
Here's the draft positions for previous dozen SEC Defensive Player of the Years.
2013 Michael Sam -7th Round (249th pick)
2012 Jarvis Jones - 1st Round (17th pick)
2011 Morris Claiborne - 1st Round (6th pick)
2010 Patrick Peterson - 1st Round (5th pick)
2009 Rolando McClain - 1st Round (8th pick)
2008 Eric Berry - 1st Round (5th pick)
2007 Glenn Dorsey- 1st Round (5th pick
2006 Patrick Willis - 1st Round (11th pick)
2005 Demeco Ryans - 2nd Round (33nd pick)
2004 David Pollack - 1st Round (17th pick)
2003 Chad Lavalais 5th Round (142nd pick)
Something like less than 5% of 7th round picks make an NFL roster. They say the NFL is the ultimate meritocracy. The Rams have created a lot of surface goodwill but will they be the bad guy when they likely cut Michael Sam and he is not on the opening day roster?
I can't let this slide:

So you might go to a sporting event because of what one the players likes to do in his private sexual life? *i'm speechless*Ebsy wrote:I might actually go to a Rams game now.
