^Glad to hear it. I tried to catch the end of it, but I was fighting the clock between getting work done for a trivia contest this weekend and getting to a 7:30 rehearsal. While I will miss the airport of my childhood tis truly looks like a good project. Should be exactly what the city needs. And it has a lot of room for growth.

^Then again, I largely consider the STL Lambert International Airport of my youth to already be gone. The loss of our old hub pretty much killed it back in 2002. Hard to believe how much I miss those ridiculous crowds and hustle that we used to have. Since then, the overwhelming majority of my flights have been Southwest and Terminal Two.
I still maintain that the best way STL can attract new businesses to the region is to improve the airport and bring in new flights. The new terminal can't come soon enough.

The BJ had a few details I hadn’t seen posted here yet.
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... llion.html
Estimated $3 billion price tag.
Rhonda says the city can afford it with the airport’s improving debt position (less than $500 million remaining with $60 million in payments per year) and increased federal funding.
Airlines are engaged and supportive so far, still lots and lots of negotiations to be had there, however.
Construction could start in four years.

I cannot argue with any of that. And if the terminal redesign brings back some of the busy it'll be completely welcome. On paper it really does remind me of Delta's terminal at DTW, which is a very comfortable and quite usable airport.gone corporate wrote: ↑May 06, 2022^Then again, I largely consider the STL Lambert International Airport of my youth to already be gone. Airport is getting 2 mil for their livestock cargo program in the state budget. I guess that’s good…

Terminal 2 is always crowded and over crowded. The connections are bustling in that terminal.

While that sounds a bit optimistic to me, Rhonda and team have done good work so far and I appreciate that she's trying to push this along as quickly as is possible. No need to complete study after study or consider additional alternative plans, it appears they have a solid plan in place that, from a purely selfish point of view, addresses the main issues that I have with the existing facility, especially over at T1.

Heh! Nicely done!gary kreie wrote: ↑May 07, 2022Is this related to the charge that air travel today is like flying on a cattle car with wings?
I’m picturing getting to my row and finding an angus in the middle seat next to me. This explains why AA switched to those salted corn kernel snacks.

Restart of Toronto on AC just landed in STL.
I also just noticed that starting July 1, one of the two frequencies switches to a E175! Great to see, first time I think that plane will be on the route. Bookings must be good. There are several days this month sold out and almost everything only has a handful of seats left. Happy they noticed.

Is AC sold as an option for days when LUfthansa isn't operating?
You can mix Lufthansa and AC flights. Take one one way and the other the other way. I think they are going to be helpful to each other.ldai_phs wrote: ↑May 07, 2022Is AC sold as an option for days when LUfthansa isn't operating?
CapeAir is requesting to terminate it's EAS service to Quincy & Burlington, IA due to pilot staffing concerns.

Are there no non-stops to the bay area (SJC, SFO, OAK) from STL now? I'm not seeing any. I'm hoping I'm just missing them.
Only SJC Saturday only starting in June. SJC/OAK were supposed to be daily but they got pulled back out of the schedule when they updated it due to staffing issues.mklein49 wrote: ↑May 09, 2022Are there no non-stops to the bay area (SJC, SFO, OAK) from STL now? Oak is back after labor day on sundays and SJC is back to daily at that time also. But that’s still subject to change.
UA pushed sfo back to January.
Circling back to this, as I recently had opportunity to look up flights to Seattle (I've been to every part of the US except the Pacific NW and Alaska, and I'm looking to rectify the former at least).symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Apr 20, 2022^But they have no business class, no economy plus, no real international flights worth mention, and no ticket sharing. They ARE a low cost carrier.
Alaska airlines has late-August tickets for two for a non-stop flight selling for ~$850 (total price, 1 carry on each included; checked bags extra). AA actually has non-stop flights for two for ~$950 (again, plus checked bags). Southwest? The cheapest I could find for two people using the 'wanna get away' prices was $1350 - and that was for a red eye flight on the way out and a stop in Denver on the way back.
This is consistent with my past experiences when trying to price shop them. I *want* to support SWA given their consistent commitment to Lambert. But not only are they not a low cost carrier, my personal experience for the last several years is that their tickets out of STL are consistently much higher than the legacy carriers - even factoring in fees, bags, etc.
Oh, and @SeattleNative I might bend your ear for tourist tips later

I said I was excited about a single concourse. I'd like to see food be given high importance with chain fast casual and local sit-down options. Hopefully they can look into attracting some retail that St. Louis's current malls and shopping centers can't support such as Zara and Uniqlo.
I also said I'd like to see the architectural of the new concourse draw from the airport's mid-century history. Airport design is very place-less. While mid-century design is hardly STL specific, I think it's a meaningful choice that could stand out.

I'm coming in PDX - STL on the 20th. Was looking last. No direct for like 2/3 days in either direction. Really absurd.mklein49 wrote: ↑May 09, 2022Are there no non-stops to the bay area (SJC, SFO, OAK) from STL now? I'm not seeing any. I'm hoping I'm just missing them.
Basically 2 weeks out and not a single direct flight for a whole week of dates. Is there no airline out there that wants to make money?
Lol you do know Zara is the European equivalent of Old Navy/Gap right? Airports target high-end clothing.....not fast-fashion. Nothing would scream St. Louis more.aprice wrote: ↑May 09, 2022https://www.flystl.com/about-us/stl-air ... open-house

Same deal as Bay area. Saturday only. Except I don't think it was ever scheduled daily. They really have cut back longer flights this year. STL-SEA/SMF/SLC cut back also. I would assume next year they will be back to normal.RuskiSTL wrote: ↑May 09, 2022I'm coming in PDX - STL on the 20th. Was looking last. No direct for like 2/3 days in either direction. I did think it might give Alaska a chance to bring STL-PDX back but they have had their own issues.

I’ve booked my first direct flight to Europe for September, STL to Frankfurt and from there to Prague to start a 14 days drive around through Eastern Europe on the way to the Croatian coast

Can’t wait, I’ve done all the major Western Europe cities but really been wanting to go see places like Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, so this is going to be the trip. Car for 13 days at Prague airport was like $620 with unlimited miles and I plan to take that seriously. Half In those place and half at our family house on the Croatian coastTheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑May 09, 2022^Nice. Enjoy that!

^Man, that does sound like fun. I haven some distant family in Bratislava, so it's on my list. A friend and I were discussing a similar trip starting in northern Italy. Anyway, have a good trip and enjoy a bit of slivovitz for me if you can.
If you can swing Ljubljana, I would highly recommend it. You could also get a day trip in to Lake Bled while there.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑May 09, 2022Can’t wait, I’ve done all the major Western Europe cities but really been wanting to go see places like Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, so this is going to be the trip. Also, since you are driving, stopping by in Český Krumlov on your way out of Prague which is a tiny, very scenic medieval town outside of České Budějovice, where you can get some Budweiser Budvar, would be fun..
