Looks like Lambert got a fair sized federal grant to upgrade, or maybe replace a portion of the taxiway as reported by biz journals.   Behind pay wall so don't have details only link

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... y-faa.html
The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday said it is awarding a nearly $7.1 million grant to St. Louis Lambert International Airport to fund the reconstruction of one of the airport's taxiways.

But unlike previous years, the city-owned airport won't be required to match a portion of the funds to cover the project's entire cost.

Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, the airport's director, said federal grants typically cover 75% of the needed cost for a project, with the recipient required to cover the rest. But projects receiving federal grants in fiscal 2020 will also receive CARES Act funds to cover the total cost of the work, she said.

The latest grant will be used to reconstruct the airport's Taxiway Delta, with work likely to begin sometime in spring 2021. Hamm-Niebruegge said the work is designed to improve the overall condition of that stretch of taxiway.

Southwest had originally cut October back to 50 flights a day (September is running that 50 a day). They have been adding back every week though. Might get some days to the 70s, which would be nice.

Good to see this quote from the Southwest CEO:

Now, if things get back to normal, those kinds of opportunities will have a hard time competing for our need to invest in St. Louis.

Yes. Last I checked they had them scheduled to return in November but I’d guess that gets pushed back.

Are they still doing those renovations at the far end of C? Was it up to C30 they were planning on activating before covid?

Does anyone have an idea about which airlines would actually fill those gates? SW would likely fill D before ever moving into C, and unless AA, SY,  F9, or AS wants to massively expand, I don't see any airline needing that many gates.
Though I do like imagining SW doing a bus service between D to C like the old mobile lounge days.

They finished up to C30.

I think they are just ready for any new airline that might come. JetBlue, International airline, Spirit, etc. Before redoing those they didn't have any extra gates remodeled for an airline to move into, without sharing with Sun Country or someone else.

October Frequencies (week of Oct 12)

Weekly (Sept 2020) Change
Southwest 412 (357) +15.4%
America 115 (124) -7.3%
Delta 108 (110) -1.8%
United 96 (101) -5%
Frontier 24 (21) +14.3%
Allegiant 21 (16) +31.3%
Alaska 7 (7) Flat
Sun Country 2 (2) Flat

Total STL 908 (866) +4.8%

Notes:
Southwest better than last month but still way down.
Frontier is back to their Pre-Covid schedule. DEN/Vegas/Orlando are all daily.
Delta is basically flat on total flights from last month but added in more mainline. ATL is all A321. Detroit has some 717s back on it. SLC has a A320 for one flight
United SFO still suspended. Those fun E145s are back on the schedule for DC/Houston.
AA has no flights to ORD on Wednesday which seems odd. Also none on PHL Tues/Sat. PHX has a CRJ900 on a frequency. I can't remember the last time it wasn't all mainline. MIA/LAX/DCA/LGA all still suspended
Allegiant just keeps chugging along and adding in more flights. Eight more a week than last November

Correct. And they weren’t included in the STL total at the bottom.

Not really. Does it give MDW a little relief? Sure. But they aren’t going to make ORD a big station. Maybe a little bigger than Dulles. I’d guess some leisure routes and flights to “hubs”, which I could see including here. ORD- Dallas-Love has no one flying it so that one makes sense and I’m sure some flights to their mega hub Denver.

Gary Kelly just a two weeks ago was saying how they plan on adding more flights here. So I’m not that concerned.

Southwest at Chicago has no risk to St. Louis operations. Biggest reason is due to them fighting AA and UA for market share which will cap fares. Better to have a dominant share in a smaller market then fight for share in a larger one.

France 24: IATA: Global air traffic will not return to pre-pandemic levels before 2024

IATA had originally thought 2019 levels could be reached by 2023, but there are too many variables for them to remain that confident, the most significant of which is apparently border reopenings (don't want to fly into countries where the virus is spreading). Also, they anticipate that the 290 airlines that make up their membership will recognize year/year revenues fully cut in half.

Time for the big 4 to start turning all their 767 passenger jets into Amazon freighters.
Just curious - what are the 4?  United, American, Delta  and ?.  I assume this refers to the traditional legacy carriers.  I know Southwest doesn't have 767's, so I was not sure if we are counting JetBlu or Alaska in the 4?
Big Four is a statement on size of carrier by unit of capacity, ASMs (available seat miles). Most would recognize AA, DL, UA, and WN as the major players big four carriers. WN is looking more and more like a legacy carrier both in their relatively high costs and need to move to airports capable of generating higher overall revenue and volumes for their higher legacy costs. Hence the addition of service to MIA, and just announced ORD and return to IAH (discontinued in 2005).
