Alaska is adding Indy as a tag route to the flight to Seattle temporarily. I assume it is to keep service to Indy to get CARE money without flying extra planes across the country they are doing it in multiple places. But you can book STL-IND on it. Will fly Seattle-STL-Indy and reverse.

Especially when they’re coming in on 29. They’d almost be coming right at you.RuskiSTL wrote: ↑Apr 26, 2020A science center type bridge would make for great plane spotting! It got pulled from the schedule for now. We’ll see if it comes back later. Probably depends on who quickly things bounce back.RuskiSTL wrote: ↑Apr 26, 2020Is Contour still happening?jshank83 wrote: ↑Apr 26, 2020Alaska is adding Indy as a tag route to the flight to Seattle temporarily. I have traveled several times during this including earlier this week. It is a very surreal experience.
One thing I noticed this week is noticing more people on the planes than two weeks earlier. Its starting to get to the point where with airlines blocking middle seats, there is starting to be a low in number of seats available in some routes. Watch by the end of the month to see if some routes start getting some frequency restored as demand is starting to return.

The paranoia talked about in this is laughable. People are so scared and as such, we may never even return to a fraction of how life was before this. People are so scared of others now that even with masks on, they act like they're going to die from sitting next to someone.hebeters2 wrote: ↑May 08, 2020I Just Flew. The guy who was being a little baby about having someone sit next to him should've been kicked off the plane. That type of behavior shouldn't be allowed under any circumstance. It's childish.
Have many really resorted to being wimps when flying on planes, taking trains, and taking busses? Are we really that scared now that we have to throw a moody tantrum if someone sits next to us? Or is it only a certain number of people who are worse than others? Either way, this is ridiculous behavior.
Wearing masks on planes is fine up to a point. I doubt people will wear masks for more than an hour on flights. Some will wear them longer. It just depends. Ultimately, the masks will be temporary, probably until a treatment becomes widespread and a vaccine has been pushed around for a little while. So maybe by next May we will be required to wear masks. Even when the mandate is eventually removed, people will still wear them but not all passengers. We can still fly, just we can't be rude about it.
If you're traveling with a friend or family member by train, bus or plane, by all means let them sit next to you. But if you're going solo, then don't be moody if someone you don't know sits next to you. It's just the way things are. It was this way before corona and will be this way after. If someone you don't know sits next to you, try and make some nice talk. It's come in handy on my journeys on Amtrak. That was before corona but many would be surprised at how much faster travel goes when you make small talk with your seat mate.
Many people are reporting overly crowded planes and it makes sense due to reduced services and the blocking of middle seats. Blocking out the middle seat is a good idea, but I wonder if you're flying as a husband and wife group or a same-sex couple if you can sit next to each other and leave the aisle seat free.imperialmog wrote: ↑May 08, 2020I have traveled several times during this including earlier this week. I expect them to reintroduce some planes into service soon. However, a downside to running more plans with fewer passengers is that airfare will be a bit higher than it was before. Prices have already gone up a bit, but they'll probably go up more. We will have to see.
I look forward to flying again regardless of the circumstances. I'm friendly to people, it's not like I'm going to throw a fit. If people are more mean to me, I'll try to be nice to them.
It is a bit surreal travelling during all of this. Here is a quick view of what I experienced at Lambert on 4/23 around 9a:

Sun Country has been given permission to suspend St. Louis service under the CARES act.

Passengers down 95.9% in April. Pretty much in line with everyone else but still crazy to see.
Also, Jeff Lea the public information manager has left to go to Minneapolis. Not sure if he has been replaced yet.

The traffic seems to be continuing its march in recovery looking at TSA stats. Will be interesting to see how airlines bring flights back and if there will be attempts during this time to try to fight for market share overall or on specific routes.
I wouldn't doubt that gaining market share is on evey CEO mind and matter of who has stronger finances & willingness to take a bigger short term hit to put more planes in the air versus what demand asks for.imperialmog wrote: ↑May 26, 2020Sounds like something you should do.jshank83 wrote: ↑May 26, 2020Passengers down 95.9% in April. Updated their schedule today. For now they just have pushed back their return to August from July.gregl wrote: ↑May 23, 2020Sun Country has been given permission to suspend St. Louis service under the CARES act.
Southwest extended their schedule thru Christmas.
Indy added. 2x a day during the week 1x Sat/Sun starting Nov 1.
Looks like they moved the the IND- Chicago/Midway flight to us. That flight ends when ours starts.
YoY changes to the November schedule (non holiday weeks)
Mon-Fri - 122 (+10)
Sat - 67 (+1)
Sun- 126 (+9)
Total - 803 (+60)

My departure shots weren't the best, as I was on the wrong side and she never really turned in a way that presented the sunny side. But I got a half decent arrival shot, at least.

It's sad the Maddog is now gone. No doubt one of my favorite aircraft. This plane was the workhorse of STL for a good 30+ years.
In fact, if I am not mistaken, the MD-80 was the last "classic" jet to still be in commercial service?

^ I suppose that depends on whether or not you consider MD-90s/B717s to still be essentially the same plane.
