Honestly, we are lucky we still have that Cincy flight. They have cut it to a lot of places (Memphis, Nashville, NW Arkansas). Only about 30ish people a day fly between Cincy and St Louis.wabash wrote: On that list of 68 destinations I was surprised to see that STL doesn’t have flights to Memphis. Hadn’t realized that. Also, it’s surprising how few seats there are going to Cincy. Really small number for such a close (but not too close, I.e. Indy) and sizable city.

I happened to look at the roofs of the T1 domes. They had black overlays like concourse A/C. I thought they redid the roofs with new copper only a few years ago. Why did they cover them up?

It will be back to green soon enough. The T1 domes have a copper roof, so they started out shinny copper and quickly tarnished to black, over the next few years they will corrode to green.
If you google search you can find a few pictures of the construction progress, and see the original green, new copper, and new tarnished black all in one photo.

Hmm. I got tripped up. the black shade makes it look almost the exact same as the other roofs. As I look closer they are definitely copper. Nice to know they didn't cover them up with anything.
During the renovation, my brother asked me my thoughts on them changing the airport roof from "green" to "orange". I got a nice laugh out of it and explained the glories of copper patina. It would have been nice to enjoy the pink/orange a little longer, the east dome had already turned brown/grey before they were done installing the roof on the west dome. It will take over ten years to turn fully green, the highway and plane pollution might help it along a little.
While we're on the topic, what will it take for them to spruce up the canopy at T1 Departures drop-off?? At least get some decent new light fixtures, those square halogen fixtures are awful. I don't want to lose the original MCM design but come on.

Owensboro voted last night to keep Cape Air to STL which is good news. Are wanting to move a frequency to Nashville though.
DOT still has to approve.
DOT still has to approve.
Marion, Quincy, and I think Cape G all still have their EAS contracts to go.
Here are all the proposals for Marion. It also includes Skywests and Boutiques proposals for all 3.
It is going to be hard for the smaller ones to go up against Skywests jet service, but we will see. I know Quincy had a lot of people complaining they want STL back and Cape Air offers both airports. So it pretty much comes down to do they want jet service to one city of prop plane service (in some cases with more frequency) to more than one.

You can vote on your favorite (cape air... Cough Cough).

^Heh! I did not think of that. If Aerlingus comes in I will be incredibly impressed. (And very happy.)
. . . I'll also take more pictures and hope for more rainbows.

If I have to use a large hub airport, I prefer the ones with individual terminals like this for individual airlines. Such as Terminal 2 here, or designs in Chicago or Boston vs. Denver or Dallas. No reason to have a giant overly complicated and crowded single terminal like the one in Denver anymore. Almost nobody changes airlines on layovers anymore. I get that they only need on gigantic TSA check-in to save some money, but it is at the expense and frustration of it's customers.

Nashville airport isn't too confusing but its one long corridor with 2 arms, what i don't like is its ALL CARPET! doesn't bode well when you're trying to pull luggage.
DFW has individual terminals, i fly into and out of C a lot and its so narrow, people lining up to board are always in the walking corridor.
speaking of Dallas- I got 3 flights to Dallas and back on the MD 80s between Monday and august 4th.....and possibly on Sept 4th, the last day of service for the MD 80s

I'm a lot more concerned with whether a terminal smells clean and feels comfortable, to tell you the truth. Nashville is dark, dreary, and surprisingly empty, but none of that would have bothered me in the least were it not for the awful music I couldn't quite ignore. T1 in Chicago is bright, but every time I'm there it seems to stink of stale grease. (T3, however, is fairly consistently fine.) T5 at JFK was hot, muggy, and dirty in the TWA days. (It was tired and it showed. Sadly, it showed so much it obscured what made it great once.) Honestly, I don't mind walking. I don't mind crowded. The lines only bother me if I'm running short on time. (And that can usually be chalked up to someone other than the airline. Usually. And even my least favorite airline worked with me to fix the problem when it really was their fault.) But if a place smells rotten or pipes in music I can't stand, that sticks. (Which is why elevator music is a thing, by the way: Go ambient. Go inoffensive. Heck, loop Music for Airports. It works as advertised.) Which is to say, if you get the basic important stuff right you'll be fine. Great architecture is splendid. I love it. I do notice nice amenities, sometimes. (Oh Incheon, let me count the ways.) But avoiding the major pitfalls is probably much more important.gary kreie wrote: If I have to use a large hub airport, I prefer the ones with individual terminals like this for individual airlines. But getting back to layouts, even airports that have many airlines in one terminal or even one concourse usually have the airlines segregated into different parts of the concourse. I'm not sure why having separate carrier specific terminals is advantageous. The only time you're ever walking far is if (like me) you actually do book through multiple carriers even now, or (like anyone who uses a legacy carrier) you sometimes have to go through a mega-monstro-uber hub where even that one airline is spread across ten concourses on two or more terminals. (At least until someone finds a way to stack planes vertically.)
Incidentally, I'd guess multi-carrier bookings would actually be up, since online discount agencies make such bookings so much easier. (And cheap leisure travel in general is a larger and larger part of the business all the time.) Would love to see statistics on that if anyone has them handy.
(Of course I am probably best described as a sporadic flyer and I usually fly international, where changing airlines was probably always more common. I suppose I could believe it's becoming somewhat uncommon in the US and maybe it's nearly unheard of now with purely domestic business travel, but . . . it does still happen. Heck, I even had a friend that had to make a connection in St. Louis on a carrier that wasn't Southwest. So even that still happens. Almost missed his flight because that was the day the roof caught fire.

This announcement gives me nostalgia of my first flights through Lambert in the early 2000s:
International Load % for Jan 2019
Total combined both ways
Air Canada 62.5%
Frontier Cancun 75%
Frontier Punta Cana 75%
Southwest Cancun 74%
Volaris/Apple HUX 57%
Volaris/Apple Cabo 55%
WOW 65% (85% inbound)
This also closes out WOW at STL. 69% loads for the entire run. 39,420 passengers.

Someone put up a billboard with Aer Lingus on it in Cleveland so everyone (well a lot of people) thought it meant they were coming to town. It turned out it was just someone local putting it up trying to court the airline. But the airplane Cleveland message boards were blowing up about how an announcement was coming and it never did. It wasn't even their official symbol.danke0 wrote:What is/was the "cleveland billboard thing?" I have to know!jshank83 wrote:I forgot all about the Cleveland billboard thing. Lol. just sh*tposting here but raleigh-durham RDU has nonstop flights to paris and london...with the bayer announcement, is it worth speculating about better prospects for nonstop service to a euro hub?
