I think it was blocked off. He could only get to the walkway to go back to the stairs.Perseus767 wrote: ↑Apr 11, 2019Did the elevator he got in to go up to the upper level of C have any security? Seems like it was just too easy to use. Though I wasn't paying attention.
If it didn't, I wonder if someone could theoretically get into the old ambassador's club? Though I assume it would be locked anyways.

Yeah, I was hoping he'd be able to get in there to show off the state of the club.

Did American use the club when they acquired TWA? Or did they just shut it down? I'd assume the former is correct.

This thread got ominously quiet. I am about to leave for London Friday and always enjoy reading input on the airport.
Not a ton to update lately. I need to get the January Loads posted but I have been lazy in putting them together. Not a lot else new. They are putting new furniture with outlets in at A9, C9, and some landslide in T1. I know the landslide and A9 is already there, not sure about C9. It looks nice like something that would be in a lounge. I think they are supposed to be spaces for people to work since those gates aren't really in use.STLCityMike wrote: This thread got ominously quiet. They also just put out bid to redo the PA system. I can't remember which terminal.

Thanks - I will get there a little early and roam around C - I have been flying SW / T2 for some time, it has been years since I have been in T1 - inf fact I have not been there since American closed their hub.jshank83 wrote:Not a ton to update lately. Well, if you can I look forward to hearing your impressions of C these days. Pictures would make it even better. Been a long times since I've been in there as well. All A/E lately. I aim to change that, but . . . haven't quite gotten around to it. Anyway, have a good flight. My brother's doing the same thing tomorrow. (Might have to ask him to document.)
TWA originally had 2 clubs in STL. One in the main terminal pre-security, the other towards the end of the C concourse (past where the concourse is open today).Perseus767 wrote: Did American use the club when they acquired TWA? Or did they just shut it down? I'd assume the former is correct.
In the late 90s, they opened a new club at the beginning of the C concourse which is now the Admiral's Club. Originally, the club was significantly larger than it is today - with conference rooms on the concourse level and additional space within the club itself. Following the 2011 tornado, they closed the conference rooms and made the club smaller during reconstruction.

Thanks. I will take some pics and see if I can get them posted for everyone to look at.symphonicpoet wrote:STLCityMike:

I was a little disappointed that March wasn’t higher but growth is growth.

The slower growth is likely in part due to Easter last year was on April 1 while its the 21st this year. So not having any portion of Easter traffic could supress growth. Generally because of this may be best to compare March + April numbers to compare year over year due to variable dates of Easter.
Get the sense growth will likely be supressed until the MAX issue gets fixed. Next year seems like growth will be faster with infrastructure improvements allowing Southwest to expand a bit faster.

^ Looks pretty good. I fly primarily out of T2 (in fact I don't think I've ever even been in A) but I'd like to see a little sprucing up on the T2 side. It looks pretty good already, but I'd like to see similar lighting fixtures and new signage like the renovated A and C gates. Especially in the old D gates Southwest has re-purposed, it does look a little more drab down there, though busy as hell if this past Monday was any indication. Bodes well for Southwest's upcoming terminal and gate expansion.
Speaking of that, anyone know when the new T2 baggage expansion is scheduled to start construction? Also I think they're missing an opportunity to build an expansion to the upper level ticketing and security checkpoint area at the same time. It is getting way too crowded in there. While this has been discussed here and I fully understand Southwest's reasoning for wanting to stay put, I really wish they were in T1.

The first thing I noticed instantaneously, I was like "What, seriously?"—wondering if anyone else can spot it.

You think swastikas are a bad look?shadrach wrote: The first thing I noticed instantaneously, I was like "What, seriously?"—wondering if anyone else can spot it.
^ Hadn't noticed that lol. In terms of sitting around other travelers I think this setup works well. Better than a big row or a circle where everyone faces each other haha.
No, it's not the swastika...they're set up for right handers.
(Just having school-boy flashbacks of that uncomfortable misery and torture known as 'desks.')

Now we just need an actual airline lounge at Concourse A, It's the only concourse in the airport without access to anything like that.

That's a coinkydink of the first couple of pictures. If you go through and check out the rest on the airport website it looks like there are several arrangements. The . . . let's call them "windmills" all look right handed, but they also have symmetric clusters of four back to back and linear arrangements where chairs are paired on both sides of the power bar. So there's more right handed seats, but still plenty of lefts. And since they're modular I suppose they can probably move them around and reconfigure fairly easily if they wish to. And they're red. Almost chili-pepper red. Not quite, a little more maroony, but close. I can live with it. Anything to make the place more red again.shadrach wrote: No, it's not the swastika...they're set up for right handers.

I think construction is supposed to start in the fall. Not sure of an exact date. The airside upgrades might be sooner and are probably needed the most. The Mayor wrote: ^ Looks pretty good. Cost was the reason it isn't being built as 2 stories now but they are building it to be able to support a 2nd story in the future.

Here's the link for the slideshow of the new modular furniture. There are a few photos of the linear configurations.

Good to know about them at least building to to handle another story in the future, they will surely need it. Any details on these airside upgrades? I hadn't heard anything about that.jshank83 wrote:I think construction is supposed to start in the fall. Not sure of an exact date. ^^^ Regarding the, what I'll call symbolism in the chairs, someone called out the airport on Facebook and they responded that it was a pinwheel design.
