I doubt Lil' Jon or any of robin hoods merry men would be panhandling at a gas station.... I just tell them I already gave money to another pan handler down the street – that he should go ask the other dude to share.

Remind me to look up references to arcane objects, instead of asking them out loud in this forum 8)

I got panhandled by a dude at QT on Kingshighway the other day. He asked if I wanted to buy one of his CDs in his car for gas money. I laughed...at least he was offering a trade.

The one good thing about all the porta-potties all over the western part of downtown remaining from the marathon is all the homeless have somewhere to go to the bathroom.

I heard a rumor that Rice already has or will soon be selling his building on Locust. Supposedly he will be focusing his efforts towards K.C. and Springfield MO.

On a scale of the guy pi$$ing in Lucas Park to the Pope - how good is your source? (I'll let you decide which one is more honest! )

My source is someone who works closely with homeless services downtown. The fact that Rev. Rice is cutting back on his work in St. Louis is already well known

Does this mean that he has solved the homeless problem finally? Good for him. "Kansas City here I come"

Rice was one of pioneers when it came to the homeless, fortunately for them other groups like St. Patrick's Center, Centenary Church, Sunshine Mission etc. have come in and done a better job with providing services. Rev. Rice also become a bit of a pariah so donations are drastically down. In addition the mounting opposition to him like the Fed building purchase might have hastened his focus elsewhere. Besides his building has become so valuable it might just make good financial sense to sell before he is forced out.

If that eyesore from Lucas park, and the eyesore that the NLEC is, can go away, DT will have an extremely good chance of reducing panhandling and car break ins from around that area, not to mention have a clean(er) image.

How can we expedite this?

Because I take the bus home to Soulard everyday I'm beginning to see many men that apparently select homelessness and panhandling as a lifestyle choice. I wonder if this is a growing segment of the population in St. Louis? As I've written before, it is a growing problem for Soulard as the numbers coming in and hanging out increase.

That is crazy. I didn't know they did that sh*t. Its like old movies when the sheriff puts the criminal in the car and drops him off at the county line. Up yours Jeffco Sheriffs dept. We should send them some of our problem children and see how they like it. Maybe its time city cops started dropping hard core gang-bangers off in Pevely.

A classmate of mine is a St. Charles city police officer. He says they drop off homeless in dt stl as a routine thing--it's sorta their unofficial m.o. Not sure how often it happens, but they do do it.
