When might a nuclear plant designed in 2026 come online? 2040?
Meanwhile we could deploy some wind and solar every year.

^ We figured it out like 40 years ago w Yucca Mountain.   We are just unable to execute because the lack of political will and of course the mind boggling amount of litigation in my opinion.    I honestly think it might be easier and at this point cheaper just to put our crap in a SpaceX or whoever's rocket & shoot it at the Sun.   But can't how many decades that might take for approvals considering...

The Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository in Nevada is a proposed, highly controversial federal deep geological repository designed to store high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Located 90 miles from Las Vegas, the project has been stalled since 2010 due to intense state, local, and environmental opposition despite being designated by Congress in 1987

It wouldn't be, even with a space elevator. The amount of Delta V to shoot something into the sun just isn't really something that could be sustainably or economically done on a regular basis.
