Yeah, work crews love it when the civilians set up lawn chairs to watch.
I mean, it's trains. You work for a rail company, you've gotta expect the train watchers to be out in force when somewhat rare events happen.

Honestly though, since I live right next to the tracks, I should really just set up a 24 hr webcam and livestream the line to Youtube.

Still confounds me that we don't have any Virtual Railfan cams here.

Somehow there's still no Virtual Railfan feed in STL, but Live Trains has one. Thanks to sc4mayor for posting that derailment video.

^I think Live Trains pretty well takes care of the need. It's a great camera in a fantastic location.

It's a shame it is in the obscurity of Live Trains (13.8k subs), like I just found out about it today. And St. Louis doesn't end up in Virtual Railfan's (426k subs) "Grab Bag" summaries.

The Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 will be in St. Louis for a couple of days in mid-September. It's part of the Heartland of America Tour, but local access is limited because of a private event. Not much info for trainspotting yet.

Saw that the other day.  Sounds like our only chance to get a close-up view will be as it arrives and departs.  Manchester Ave south of Dogtown would be a great spot.   Wondering where the UP private event will be held.  If it's on the siding downtown where it parked last time, there will be some good spots for public viewing a short distance away on bridges over the tracks.

Looks like it heads south down the old St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern line to De Soto and beyond, so Manchester will likely be a terrible decision if you want to see it. I suspect, and the map even kind of the suggest this, that they will take the Missouri Pacific Oak Hill line just like the Amtrak Texas Eagle assuming the UP employee event is on the St. Louis side of the river. Carondelet Park could be a good spot to catch it. There are also many overpasses along the way.

It's disappointing to see no display day in St. Louis like last time. There was a huge crowd, so there is clearly interest. KC gets a whole day this time.

Thanks for the clarification Matt.  I just don't want to make a long drive to De Soto.  Would actually rather view as it passes by.

First, thanks for the heads up! If I'm able to I'll try to get some shots. There are some great locations along the Oak Hill Line.

Second, this reminds me I have about a year's worth of pictures to add. (Which isn't as bad as it sounds, as I did most of my rail photography outside St. Louis for the last year or so.)

But here's what's in town . . .

Sitting on the stub of the old Carondelet Branch at Kirkwood Junction.

Down by the brewery

You can see the string of hoppers on the brewery flyover that jumps up and over the Lesperance Industrial Lead.

Mannie Enginehouse

And lastly, a random grab shot as I was stuck in traffic on the Polar Street. Wish I'd have had a proper camera with me as my phone just didn't do the scene justice.
