No site plan that I've seen yet. It does seem to be a lot of asphalt, though. I hope future construction in the CORTEX area is less autocentric. Still, I agree the view from 40 is great.

Next week's Business Journal article on Shriner's has the wrong rendering. They should have checked NextStl before sending to the printer.

They should pay for nextSTL stories/info. Urbancincy.com has a content sharing agreement with the Cincinnati Business Journal.

Steel work is going up. This thing is highly visible from the highway; in fact, it's almost too close.

This thing is going to appear massive from highway 40 when done. Between the Shriners Hospital, BJC construction, Cortex, and the phase II of Aventura, this area will have went from a very desolate feel to highly developed in a matter of a couple years.

Yup, it will be really nice...Along with everything hopefully happening soon in Midtown further east! Now if they would just tear down Aventura and build something that looks as different as possible...Well, maybe in 20 years :)

From a PD article today:
The steel frame of the $50 million Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis is complete.

Workers set the final steel beam in a “topping out" ceremony yesterday at the construction site in the Central West End. The hospital at 4400 Clayton Avenue is scheduled for completion in early 2015.

The article also mentions construction jobs are up 7.9% over last year.

Fox 2 had a segment about the building's topping out, but it also reported on various projects currently underway in the surrounding area - the apartments in FPSE, BJC expansion, Opus' new project and City Walk/Whole Foods. City Walk is to begin construction in a few weeks, according to the report and Bruce Mills, who was interviewed.

The reporter made a quick mention of CORTEX but did not cover it extensively.

Glad to see the jobs in the CWE growing, particularly those within walking distance of FPSE. It is such a shame that when the City sold off part of Forets Park that they didn't leverage the space for improved bridges over 40 to better bridge the gap. Ideally, this would be something like wider sidewalks cantileverd off each side with enhanced landscaping to hide the highway.

I'm really surprised how small this building is. Did they make any accommodation for future expansion?

Opening June 1.

Too bad it isn't larger but it sounds like it will meet the needs of a great organization. I also didn't know the third floor almost entirely will be research in partnership with WashU.... sounds like these folks will be in addition to the 139 Shriner's staffers making the move.

If I were in charge, they'd make the move via a parade of tiny, tiny little cars snaking and looping down I-64. Might as well make it fun.
