As reported by ALIVE, Ellerson Jr. plans to incorporate a stronger "House of Blues" feel to the new location, with live jazz and blues music seven nights a week (The Melvin Turnage Band will be its house band), with a portion of the dining room set up specifically as the stage. On Tuesday nights, Ellerson Jr. plans to bring in more unknown local talent to play. He's aiming for a "one-stop shop" for eating and entertainment in Downtown's nightlife scene.
Although the square footage is the same, the new spot will be more open and with a "speakeasy-style feel," according to Ellerson. The bar will be open to 1:30am most nights. No definite word on whether it'll be open for breakfast, however.
6th & Wash. is going crazy: Porano Pasta & Gelato; Sugarfire; Kitchen Sink; National Blues Museum; and is there a streetscape project still in the works?
"When I opened my first location, people were telling me it was a bad idea, and then when I moved to the second location, people thought it was an even worse idea than the first," Ellerson Jr. says. "Then with Downtown, people I talk to don’t think it’s the best idea again. So I’m motivated to prove them wrong – if you do what you’re supposed to do, people will come. Either you’re good enough, or you’re not."
"I've been looking for another location for about six months, and I like the challenge of Downtown," says Ellerson Jr. of opening near other worthy competition. "I'm pro-St. Louis, and I think Downtown is the heartbeat of the city."
Great quotes! Not to mention, the food is really good. Make sure to go there if you have not already. These are exactly the kind of businesses we need. If a young, previously unknown restaurant can make it, it should give courage to others (especially more "established" names).
^ Also very cool sounding about the 555 Washington location is that they intend to have a lot of live music -- jazz and blues -- which I think will go very well in the district.

Don't forget Noodles & Co, and Taze. Now if we can get someone to lease out 505 Washington that would be killer. I believe street trees are being planted right now, btw, but I don't know the extent of planned streetscaping.
Amos Harris was going to war against the city about lack of quality streetscapes, btw... I think he may have been one of the downtown leaders demanding more attention from City Hall.

Okay, here is an interesting one.... there is a proposal to open a burlesque spot with 3 a.m. liquor license at 14th & Washington. (Maybe old Lola spot?)
A positive takeaway from that blog is that several of the "What If" spaces it identified over time have either been filled or are in the process of being filled by new business/residential.
Medina Mediterranean started the action and it looks like it'll be Restaurant Revival for downtown this summer....
Taze Mediterranean Street Food: 626 Washington (#103), mid-May
The Gyro Company: 750 Locust, late May
Tiny Bar: 1008 Locust, late May
Seven Zero Eight (Jake’s Steaks): 708 N. 2nd, late May
Porano Pasta & Gelato (Takaya New Asian): 634 Washington, summer
The Kitchen Sink: 555 Washington, late summer
Sugarfire Smoke House: 605 Washington, late summer
Mango Peruvian Cuisine: From 1101 Lucas to 1001 Washington (Mosaic), summer
(info from STL Mag) Not bad and these openings are exactly the kind of rejuvenation needed after the BPV threat showed you can't be complacent.

^ I noticed that, too

Was it ever determined whether the space in the upper right corner of this rendering (8th & Pine) of the Arcade redevelopment would be a Webster student dining concept or available for lease to another business?
Webster is shooting for a December 2015 move in, so theoretically that space could be available by the end of the year. It'd be great to add something there to the laundry list above.
^ That will be a great spot so hopefully it is a worthy establishment going in. In other non-Washington locations, I believe Bailey's plan for BBQ on Locust is still in the works (although that may be awhile) and State Street has been working to get a restaurant into the Tower @OPOP spot, which I think is another prime location.

Awesome... any idea of concepts/timeline? Chains? Locals?
Sauce on Side is moving to the Tower @OPOP space.... excellent news! Their old, cramped spot should be able to find a new retailer without too much trouble with the Arcade/Wright opening up and the move will allow for a successful restaurant to grow.
Couple of tidbits in the news for Downtown West.....
The Precinct - Jim Edmond's place by the new police HQ - closed (sounds like they'll still be renting the space out for private events) and yet another lounge will be opening in the old We Ho/Nectar etc. space at 20th & Locust.
Meanwhile in downtown, I believe the Tiny Bar has had a soft opening. One giant step for barkind.

That sucks, but it's not at all surprising. Weird hours lately (no posted hours on the door). The food quality was ever-changing or they were just out of whatever I wanted.
