Whats wrong with bringing people to your ward would would vote for you in an election? This is politics, and creates an advantage over your opponent.

Are citizens against this for some reason? What does this have to do with residential high rise towers; they increase the number of voters, yes, but they also increase economic activity and tax dollars!

Finally, these buildings are classy. Why are we against buildings with class, that will be 'historical' in 50-75 years?

Historical districts will only die if newer buildings are not added. They should be appropriate, but if you look in the CWE, you will notice many tall buildings.

Bastiat wrote:Though I don't think this pertains to this building, it is a problem that the city faces. I've heard that rehabbing and development in North St. Louis is hard due to some of the aldermen. It seems to me that they are afraid that gentrification will bring in a different demographic and they will lose their power. We should not have the future of our city dependent on people like this. We need to get rid of the Board of Aldermen.

I almost pissed my pants I laughed so hard!

Get rid of the board of Aldermen, are you joking? Two generations of old timers would have to die; about everyone over 40. Then we could vote on it.

This will never happen. We cannot even get control of our own police force!

Not all Aldermen in North St. Louis are against development. Troupe is definately for development in his ward, as well as, Bosley Sr, since he has newer housing in his ward.

Some of the Aldermen maybe afraid of loosing their constituency, however, if they make it easier for rehabbers, and homeowners, to get in the neighborhood, and if they make positive improvements, then I am sure they will retain the votes.

I would guess that Boz Sr. is one of the aldermen that Bastiat was referring to.

Yeah, well, his ward 3 has that new Bosley Estates development, which I do not like, however, it is development. He maybe allowing ugly development, but at least there is some activity.

I'm doing a sort of internship with her, so I have open ears from her. I'll be out of town until Sunday. I will be thinking about this all weekend probably just waiting to get back.

After viewing this thread on Skyscraperpage.com, it makes the opposition to a 28-story tower seem even more absurd:

I'm going to try to be there. I promised my brother that I'd help him paint tomorrow afternoon, so I probably won't be able to stay long, but I do want to participate.

Also, I sent an email to Teppers org...Titled 'Bored Now'.

Also, my favorite names for the group would be:

Urban Growth Coalition

and

St. Louis Urban Action League

(but wouldn't it be SLUAL?)

I like these because we can band together in the future for any other issues that might arrise, and the name will still be apt.

I just found out that since the Grind is moving soon, its last day at its present location will be tomorrow (Sunday), so they are expecting to be quite busy. I will try to get there a little early to section off some tables, but if it is just too crowded, we'll meet there anyway and perhaps have to walk over to Coffee Cartel or if its nice, maybe we can do it outside. Either way, meet at the Grind, 1:00pm.

I, unfortunately, wanted to write and let you all know that I will not be attending after saying I would be. After moving a friend all day Saturday - poop I am - we were not able to finish everything up --- so off I go to help again.

I give my support to you all and let me know if I can help in any other way this time.

:)

^It was great to meet everyone today! I posted more thoughts (not that I have many at this point, but I'm working on it) in the "Progress!" thread since we'll continue this specific discussion there.
