From the Biz Journal...I had looked right over an article b/c I was focusing on the STL Center stuff, but there was a small article saying that Pujols was in negotiations with partners to open a restaurant most likely in either the old Pet Building or Cupples Station but that he did not have a timeline for the project.

You couldn't resist saying that could you? Well I agree. It is always nice to see sports figures taking an interest in something other than there sport.

That sounds great! We're very lucky IMHO to have this man not just as part of our community- not just our baseball team. If Pujols applies his Midas touch to this endeavor as he does with his baseball career and charitable efforts, it'll certainly be successful.
On a somewhat, but not really, related note: I always wished/thought Ozzie Smith should open a second location of Ozzie's, or simply relocate the existing one, since I've never been a big fan of Westport Plaza. Perhaps it would fit in well as part of Ballpark Village since the other Cardinals-related restaurants are just outside the new development. IMHO, there's certainly enough room (i.e. customers) for Mike Shannon's, Ozzie's, and Pujols' restaurant in the immediate vicinity of Busch Stadium.

Projects like this will help tie the ballpark village into a greater, connected, cohesive neighborhood beyond its development boundaries.
THe only thing about Ozzie's is that Ozzie doesnt own it...Ray Gallardo owns it along with Patricks and Fuzio.
Ray seems to be a suburban minded fellow...
Although the Bucks dont own J. Bucks, its owned by Ted Geiger and he is scouting a downtown location for J. Bucks

Thanks for jogging my memory! The more I thought about it, I knew Ozzie wasn't the owner of his eponymous sports-themed restaurant...

We still have plenty of those, despite the unquestionable renaissance underway in downtown.
Oh well- Gallardo's loss is Geiger's gain, I suppose. I'd certainly like to see a J. Buck's downtown. Ucityman has a good point, I think, in that surrounding development news like this will tie in nicely with Ballpark Village. As the periphery is developed, Ballpark Village becomes less of an island unto itself and more of a cohesive part of the urban fabric. Now if we could just do something about that island separating this part of downtown from the rest...like the Gateway Mall...

It would be extra cool if Pujols? restaurant serves Dominican food or somehow incorporates his home country?s culture into the atmosphere.

Bernie Miklasz is reporting that Pujols is opening his restaurant in Westport.
News conference tomorrow....
Will be called PUJOLS 05
Will be @ Westport Plaza.
Going in with the Hanon family.

If it's true then it may be tragic too. He must not have such a good business manager.

Definitely dissapointing. Westport, IMO, has lost some fo it's appeal lately as any sort of destination area to go out in. I'm sure the lunch crowds are nice, but I know few people who even consider it on the weekend. But...I'm sure they've got their reasons.

The Hanon's run Ozzie's as well. Is it possible that Pujols' place will be replacing Ozzie's? I doubt it, but who knows. Is Westport really big enough for two sports bars? Did Pujols not want to compete with an ESPN Zone in BPV? Can I possibly ask any more questions about this?

Why do you say that? I suspect Ozzie Smith has made a boat load of money out there.

But he is an active partner, as I have been told.

Did it ever have any appeal?

^You mean you never went to Margarita Mama's et. all with a fake before your were 21!
Who in the F goes to dinner at Westport? I don't care how snobby that sounds. Pujoles (HUGE FAN by the way) should of put it downtown. Westport...really?

Ozzies was recently ranked as one of the top 10 or 15 sports bars in the country by espn. IMHO that is a joke..I've been there more than once, and it was, um how do i put this nicely...terrible at best... Pujols you are the man, but what the heck are you thinking??? Personally westport has no appeal to me.
Does anyone else live around clayton, brentwood, ucity...?Talk about a part of town that desperately needs a decent sports bar !!! But Pu, i say keep it in the city...
