I hate to descent - but my parents live in Creve Coeur --- when ever I visit them and DO manage to force myself to Westport - its usually got decent crowds. Can the area support another sports bar? Personally I am sick of so many sports bars in the area. I WISH WE HAD SOME OF THE PLACES I FIND IN DOGTOWN OR SOULARD. Every drinking establishment could be classified as a sports bar. YES THE AREA CAN SUPPORT MORE SPORTS BARS.



I would love to see it downtown - but its not nearly as bad as you guys might make Westport seem. EASY ACCESS TO HIGHWAYS, POSSIBLE METRO EXPANSION, LOTS OF BARS ALREADY AND PARKING. I could think of a LOT worse.



Problem with the Loop or Clayton or anything like that - parking - Westport has that covered already.



Also Ozzy will sign any baseball that is left for him (supposedly) - and seeing as he lives of Conway in West County - Westport is a much easier drive. Maybe the same is true about Albert? He lives off Wild Horse Creek I believe -- still not close to Westport - but its a lot closer to his "sphere" of living than is BV or what ever.



Smart business choice for him, decent new choice for the region as far as overpriced poor service sports bars.

Westport will always draw the St. Chuck/Maryland Heights crowd, which, in addition to several other factors, is a huge reason why I avoid it. I'm sure Pujols' bar will do quite well.

Why not an entirely new concept for a sports themed place in Ballpark Village. If it's only about money, wouldn't the sales be much higher downtown than in someplace like Westport?

Not necessarily... Westport is steady. It may not be the new hotspot, but as DeBaliviere pointed out, it gets the St. Chuck/Maryland Hts crowd. It's a fairly low risk location.



Not that Pujols needs to worry about the risk. He's the golden boy right now, any restaurant he opens will be successful just because it's connected to him. Which is why, IMHO, he should open it downtown, but he didn't consult me. ;)

Don't forget the business crowd at Westport. There are a TON of offices in that little area with very few eating options around it (for those that have limited time for lunch).



Although I would like to see it downtown I'm just glad he's opening something up.

I was a part of that crowd for a year, when I lived in Maryland Heights and worked in Dearth City. That was at least one year too long, as that entire area is anathema to me these days.



I saw part of the 'news conference' since KSDK apparently thought it was breaking news. Pujols' restaurant will replace Patrick's (now there's a loss) and it will have a global-inspired menu. They say it's a sports grill, not a sports bar. Umm...okay.



I would've been much more enthusiastic about this place had it opened downtown. Hell, I can think of many other suburban locations that I would've preferred to Westport. Boulevard Saint Louis? Station Plaza in Kirkwood? Clayton? I'm sure the partnership with Hanon sealed the deal for a Westport location though, since Patrick's has been a tired concept at least since I've been old enough to drink (I'm 31, BTW). :wink:



I may give it a try one of these days if the menu is appealing enough. I haven't been to Ozzie's in nearly a decade, and unless it's changed drastically, I remember it as a Krieger's or Applebee's with more interesting decor. :wink:



At any rate, I know it'll be successful, hopefully to the point where he opens other locations, including downtown. And it must be good for those that work in the area, as their choices are severely limited.

I was under the mistaken impression that Westport has been struggling and depressed for the past 5-10 years. Wish'em luck but that area out there is a void. Even my friends that grew up in Maryland Heights concede that its none too bright. I would have maybe given it the old college try (cause of Pujols) but can't stomach the idea of ever eating at a Hanon's place again.

Not dead - just trying to re-invent itself -- probably for reasons similar to the posts on here. There has been mention of adding another office tower and/or a residential tower. Honestly a lot of growth in the area has been concentrated around creve coeur (olive/270) and not westport...



Right now hes the King of the Diamond. But I wonder if Albert will be as popular 10 years after he retires as ozzie smith is now. Think how far Mark Mcguire has fallen in the past 6 years. More MVP seasons and a world series will help his image.

Preliminary reports aren't good. A Minimum of two weeks. But with a strained oblique, it's more likely to be 6 weeks than two.

I went to the Taste of Clayton today and there was a booth for the new restaurant. They are calling it "Pujols5" and are marketing it as a partnership with Patrick's and Pujols. I overheard the supervisor of the tent getting the employees together to brief them on what was happening. Apparently, there was a lot of misinformation being put out...mainly that Patrick's was going away completely.

Pujols 5 is now open, and from what I can tell, it's replaced Patrick's. We went there Friday night and we didn't stay long enough to say if the food was good. The hostess was very rude, and after waiting for about 35 minutes they tried to seat our party of 7 at a booth for 6. When we explained that we needed seats for 7 adults and a high chair for the baby, they were totally flustered.



They said that all of the high chairs were in use and that they would bring us one when one was available, which was not going to work for us. The atmosphere was pretty ho-hum, dark walls and pictures of Pujols on the walls... nothing impressive about it. The wait staff and the manager on duty were rude and unaccomodating. I won't be going back to see if the food is worth the hassle.

I wonder what kind of service you would get if you were hispanic and tactfully claimed to be Pujols's cousin visiting from Independence, MO :lol:
