That old Hoagie City space at 18th and Olive also looks available for lease. The promised Jay B's Sandwiches never opened, and I think they've finally given up. I have no idea how turning a diner into a sandwich shop could be that difficult, but then again I'm no restaurateur

I would hope the city would have more authority in urban planning also about desired new construction.
Anything suburban style shouldn't be allowed past city limits however we all know that that will never happen but that kind of mindset just possess's limitations too.
I for one would love to see a modern yet contemporary/urban style Dunkin Donuts & Tim Hortons built next to each other in the city. Tucker would be candidate for that sort of thing.

^ I know KC was trying to enforce no drive-thrus in the Greater Downtown area but I can't remember if it stuck to its guns on a variance request a couple months back by a Taco Bell or something.
For the Olive storefronts across from the new HQ, my vision is sort of a good cop/bad cop (or fat cop/healthy cop if you will) scenario of a donut shop and Athlete Eats side-by-side.

I am betting Tim Hortons WILL open downtown somewhere. They are very urban oriented - especially in Canada where they began. Tim Horton, if you didn't know, was a Canadian hockey player/star that started the chain. Wendy's bought the chain in the 90's. They have great donuts, soups, sandwiches etc... I am surprised that Dunkin Donuts has not opened downtown yet really.

From what i read Jimmy Johns is building a stand alone store with a drive through. I believe KC tried fighting it but lost...

^^ Tim Horton's once again is under control of the loonies.... I wonder if DD or TH will be the first to arrive downtown.
What do you mean by "loonies"?roger wyoming II wrote:^^ Tim Horton's once again is under control of the loonies.... I wonder if DD or TH will be the first to arrive downtown.

Ha well downtown still hasn't gotten a CVS or Walgreens i couldn't fathom the thought of either making a entry into the city let alone downtown anytime soon but good to know that downtown is on the radar for Tim Hortons. Is there even a Dunkin Donuts within the city limits?

What does this mean? There are CVS and Walgreens stores all over the city.

Not yet. The closest they've dare to come is Rock Hill.TheNewSaintLouis wrote:Ha well downtown still hasn't gotten a CVS or Walgreens i couldn't fathom the thought of either making a entry into the city let alone downtown anytime soon but good to know that downtown is on the radar for Tim Hortons. I've been to at least 5 different Walgreens in the city, and I'm sure there's more outside of my bubble. I know of just the one CVS, but there may well be more.
But yeah, Dunkin Donuts hasn't yet made the plunge.

Do we really want a Dunkin Donuts in the City when we already have good donut shops?

I've only been to DD when traveling, but I can't recall the last time I saw someone get a donut there. Seems like these days they are more about their coffee and breakfast sandwiches. And while parts of the city have lots of great local coffee shops I think DD could move in to a few locales
Actually I kind of wish the new multi use building on 7th in Soulard contained a Dunkin Donuts rather than a Subway.

I'm all for local businesses: but a city can't survive on local alone.Ebsy wrote:Do we really want a Dunkin Donuts in the City when we already have good donut shops?
We don't need to become Chicago or Boston where there's a DD every other block: but would it hurt to get one somewhere downtown?

This may be silly but i always thought that once the McDonalds opened again in the CBD then things are finally looking up downtown. I think DD must be that same thing for others.
I know its silly

I'm all about fitness & healthy eating but when i want to break down specially when i go threw a certain craving & if that craving is donuts then i always find myself going to QT.
Some reason I'm in love with their large cinnamon roll donut with that thick glazing omg i feel like I'm flying into heaven.
Last time i was actually at DD was inside of 7/11 long time ago.
I always seem to get these strange cravings from out of no where like lately i been craving Chinese Food.
Oh I told my friend in Montreal that we're getting about 40 Tim Hortons.
His response was he thought it was only a Canadian thing.
Not anymore.

Dunkin Donuts has nearly a cult following in New England. A large cult following.
My sister used to swear by DD's coffee before she moved back to St. Louis and couldn't get it anywhere convenient. If you ever look at DD's ads, it's pretty clearly they view their marquee product as coffee despite their founding and their name.
Heck their slogan (not sure if it's still in use) "America runs on Dunkin" is a clear reference to getting a morning cup of coffee there.
