^Isn't there a new roundabout going in on Cherokee as well? I seem to recall driving through a small one when I was last there a few weeks ago. (Reminds me I need to stop in at STLStyle and grab a new flag.)

^ Thanks for posting Quincunx. Can't help but think how much Ram's settlement funds sitting in a bank account? How much covid funds not committed and might disappear? and at same time a big miss with 2023 Raise grants. City can make some meaningful investments that will last for years
FY23 Raise (aka Tiger Grants) funds obligated with no St. Louis/Metro East Grants. POTUS admin went heavy on street/pedestrian grants in poor neighborhoods, urban and rural areas, on one of the biggest grant rounds to date, $2.3 billion, thanks to Infrastructure fund boost. Looking at dot map it looks like St. Louis one of the few metro areas without a grant.

Were there applications from the Stl region? How many? For what? Was there a catch like you had to have a safety plan done to apply for bigger things in the SS4A grants?

Without much fanfare, the city has been fixing bad curb ramps citywide after the Ada transition plan was done, it’s made its way to Washington Ave where all the ramps between 4th and Tucker are being done

Small pet peeve. The curb ramps and sidewalk look good, but there's definitely a cleaner and nicer way to do the asphalt edging. It looks like when they're digging out the old asphalt pavement they're just letting it break it whatever jagged pattern it forms instead of spending 5 extra minutes to sawcut a nice, clean, edge line that's 1 -2 feet away from the curb line. Feels like it diminishes the look of the final product by not having a clean edge line.
Happy to see the work done, but it would have been nice to incorporate more curb bump outs to improve the pedestrian experience and contribute to calming the streets

I’m surprised it’s taken this long. There’s simply no room for vehicles in a huge chunk of the city, particularly those areas within a mile or so of the Seine

Glad to hear that! Will be interesting to see how it works out.

Paris is speedrunning self improvement lately, in ten years the car brained folks around here will stop saying "STL isn't Amsterdam!" and will instead switch to "STL isn't Paris!"

^But we could be if we wanted to be and thought forward far enough!
Well, maybe. I hope.

^^ Ugh you should've seen the car-brains out in force on the infrastructure improvement map that the City posted to its FB page recently. Really disheartening.

No argument there. Hopefully they can just push it all through and force them to deal with it.
I honestly think the secret weapon in arguing, promoting and developing a more pedestrian, multimodal and lane reduction for American cities is Trees. To me it is also pointless to widen sidewalks, take out lanes or add medians if you don't incorporate trees into the discussion and design. Its a win win and even the car freaks, including myself who will gladly drive less but will not give away my vehicle, sees this as a huge opportunity with all sorts of folks across spectrums realizing it is getting warmer period. In other words, find an agreeable broader focal point

Funny, that's just the opposite of what I saw at the Grand and Kingshighway open houses. (At Tower Grove and St. Mary's respectively.) Though there was plenty of car brain at the Green Line open house on Jefferson at the rec center. Hopefully the city listens more to people who actually show up than to people who merely comment online. (I say as I comment online.)Trololzilla wrote: ↑Mar 26, 2025^^ Ugh you should've seen the car-brains out in force on the infrastructure improvement map that the City posted to its FB page recently. Yeah I honestly got the impression that a lot of the commenters were actually just FB tourists from St. Chuck or the other outlying counties that love to sh*t on the City at any opportunity. Oh well. Just build it out.

Trailnet hasn't released its 2024 St. Louis Crash Report yet but 2023's showed divergent results in City and County.
https://trailnet.org/2023-crash-report/
In the City we had under 10 pedestrian deaths for the first time since 2014 while the County had the deadliest year ever. (CIty had no bicyclist deaths and County.)
