From today's PD:

Speaking of downtown, the owners of the fine barbecue joint Smoki O's (1545 North Broadway, 314-621-8180) have decided against a planned second location in the renovated Paul Brown building.

^Not surprising. The Paul Brown Building is an awesome redevelopment and I am sure the rents are pretty steep for downtown compared to where they are.

Smoki O's is just okay to me, but they manage to find clientele on Broadway - just outside of downtown. I was there recently and the customer stream was steady.

As more options become available for people working in the downtown area, more people may choose to live where they work. And as those numbers increase, so will retail in the area, creating an even bigger incentive for more people to live downtown.

The building looks absolutely great. And the floor plans look really interesting.

There is a sign up in the space that Smoki o's was going to go into requesting a hearing for a full liquor license. It looks like there is finally activity in that corner.

The Japanese Sansei Restaurant is suppose to open on Olive on June 1 in the Paul Brown Lofts.

Yes! Finally another lunch dining option, and maybe even a dinner option.

I heard the pool/rooftop deck got pretty rough last night (4th of July) to watch the fireworks.

Drinking, broken bottles, pot smoking and even a fight amoungst a bunch of not very well supervised children.

Anyone confirm?

False information.

Us tenants and their guests had a GREAT time on the PB Roof 7/4.

There was NO trouble, no broken bottles (no glass is allowed on the rooftop rule), drinking & partying WAS going on there + everywhere in the city (?). "Fighting amongst the poorly supervised children?" Was it them playing "Marco Polo" in the pool with their mom laughing or dancing to the music? I assure you folks, it was a very festive and good time for all - in an incredible setting (perhaps one of the BEST downtown).

My experience living here has been excellent from day one. The Paul Brown Lofts consist of a really good community of people from all walks of life. We love living here. Sure, there are always going to be a few bad apples that spoil it for the bunch - but NOT this time. (And hopefully never).

I think somebody might have got the story twisted and perhaps could not get TO the roof (due to some patio elevator trouble that evening). Perhaps by "rough" - they meant - ALOT OF PEOPLE STUCK ON THE ROOF HAVING TO WALK DOWN A FEW FLIGHTS OF STAIRS. Ultimately, the building security handled it very professionally and managed to get the lift operating.

The pool (btw) is closed due to some drainage repairs ~ should be open tommorrow in time for the weekend! :D

Stay COOL everybody!

I've been living in the Paul Brown for almost two years and have seen the quality of the building steadily decline. I plan to move in November when my lease is expired and really wouldn't recommend the building to anyone that I know. I've talked to many long time residents who are also planning on moving.

we love it!

I would recommend the Paul Brown Lofts to anyone that wants to be in the center of downtown St. Louis exciting culture and renaissance.

The building is absolutely SPECTACULAR always very clean and well taken care of!

We are also home to some great retail spaces. The always busy Espresso Mod Coffee Shop (2007 ALIVE HOT LIST WINNER), The House Of Jewels, Curves for Women, Peoples National Bank, Groove Theory Handbags & Accessories, Baladas Bistro and SanSai Japanese Grill. Coming soon - the Arcade Building and all of it's offerings.

The Paul Brown Loft Apartments are convenient to downtown and the central business district, walking distance to everything: the NEW Busch Stadium, Edward Jones Dome, Scottrade Center, Metro Link and a myriad of vibrant restaurants and nightlife.

I'm certain that it's not as bright and shiny as when it first opened but I moved here about 1 year ago from downtown NYC to "BE" a part of the STL Renaissance and this is STILL the best place to live in the city.

St. Louis is the best "new downtown city" in the U.S.A.

You should all be very proud and continue to support its growth!

Ultimately-It's what YOU make it.

# No, I'm not a leasing agent and this is NOT some commercial for the Paul Brown Lofts ~ just the TRUTH about where we live and plan to stay until we purchase (DOWNTOWN) #

I walked through the lobby and spotted an extremely hot lady, probably 27 at the oldest. Combined with the architecture, what else does one need?

For I seem to have offended/upset Raven Fox with that comment, I should point out that my comment was only expressing how "I FEEL." In no way was I accusing Raven Fox of being an agent of PB.

I thought you were talking about Doug's comments. Kinda like how health clubs will have the uber-hot chick or a Brad Pitt-ish gorgeous dude working the sales pitch.

I love it when people talk up their buildings, their neighborhoods, and their city. I can see why people might think he was doing a sell job, but you might consider that he was responding to someone else's very negative feelings about the building. He felt like he had to put in a good word to be supportive of this important development. Maybe he will continue posting on Urban St. Louis and we will get to know him and his motives better.

We are home... that's what made it sound like a sales pitch to me. So, what type of people are moving into the building? why the changes in only one years time? Younger?

Yeah, but this is St. Louis, you can't talk up anything like that unless it's in Chesterfield or St. Charles. I've been hanging out with some suburbanites lately and it's almost like you have to fight for the city when talking to these people. For what it's worth, I visited the Paul Brown about a month ago and it seemed clean, and the rooftop was amazing. I love that view and envy that pool on 95 degree+ days like today. Add to that the fact that it's right next to the Arcade and you can see the Roberts Brothers' banner from there and I'd say it's in a pretty damn good location.

I visited the Arcade display unit (in the Paul Brown) and thought the lobby, hallway and elevators were very clean. The saleswoman told me that the Paul Brown had just recently been maintaining occupancy in the mid-90% range. Maybe just being full makes the building seem different than when it was less full. I know that just a few inconsiderate people can create some pretty big annoyances, but I'd still rather live in a cool building with a lot of amenities than in a single-family home.

I would rather pay to live in the Paul Brown over living for free in St. Charles or Chesterfield. They can enjoy their brick veneer while we have our marble lobbies and terra cotta.
