Assuming you're talking about the old hotel that had become the San Luis assisted living center at Taylor/Lindell? The simple answer is that it was demolished two years before the city passed the form-based code for this part of the CWE.

Not really. If the Archdiocese wanted to tear down a building for a parking lot, they'd likely get their way, just as SLU got their way with the Pevely. If the preservation board denies a demo permit, they can just appeal to the planning commission, threaten to move to the County, and voila! And if the alderperson supports the demolition, as was the case with the San Luis, it would almost certainly be a done deal.rbb wrote:Yeah, that's the one. Absolutely beautiful. This is why I wish BJC would respect the old Jewish hospital building rather than tear it down for another bland glass box. These buildings were built with gracious inviting facades and they were/are oriented towards forest park and Kingshighway. The new BJC buildings so far have placed blank walls and mechanical vents towards the street (not to mention parking garages).

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of things in the CWE are closing? Duff's, the Crushed Red failure, the mostly empty Hill Building, and now Qdoba. It does seem very odd to me though, that they're announcing this only 24 hours before the actual closure.

Qdoba is odd - not sure what's happening, but they're closing several locations throughout STL. The Duffs spot will be filled very soon. Crushed Red space has been very challenging with locals not wanting another place serving alcohol - it would be an I-Tap otherwise. Some things are closing, but turnover's to be expected.

The Qdoba closings only makes more room for Chipotle, which are better in my opinion. Just put one downtown.

The specific Qdoba locations closed are 15 North Euclid Avenue in the city of St. Louis, 1600 Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters, 12710 Olive Boulevard (at North Mason Road) in Creve Coeur, 1784 Wentzville Parkway in Wentzville and 6570 North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights. Also closing is the location 3051 Phoenix Center Drive in Washington.
