^ Agreed. 4545, although new, is a typical Lindell tower, meaning no views to the east or west, and the only "good" side of the building is the one that faces the boulevard. The benefit of being in this property is that you're right there at Lindell and Euclid. Park East is, of course, taller and has unobstructed views in every direction from almost every floor. As the whole stretch of Euclid has improved over the past 5 years, the cachet of a Lindell address isn't worth as much as it used to be. (Although it's still quite a bit of cachet.)

I walked by the east side of the building tonight and it looked like the Starbuck's was open, though I don't know if it was for training or actually open.

^ Well . . . . how is it? Has anyone tried it?
In all seriousness, is it a big store? More like the central Clayton SBUX, or the Maryland SBUX?

^ Haven't tried this location yet, but the CWE certainly needs a Starbucks the size of the two locations in Clayton.
Hopefully this one's bigger than the cubby hole on Maryland Avenue.

I haven't been yet but my girlfriend has and she said it is really nice. I am still surprised that CWE doesn't have a true diner.
Outside of the Greek specialties and breakfast, the food at the majestic isn't very good in my opinion. The last time I was there I had a burger that was possibly the worst burger i have ever had.
I like the atmosphere, but I wouldn't mind seeing something new with a menu like Steak & Shake but without the neon signage. I remember a place near Wash U. on Wydown or close to it that was a really great diner style themed restaurant and I remember the food being great. Does anybody know what I'm talking about. I wonder if it's still there.

You're not thinking of the parkmoor, are you?
There's no reason to go to the Majestic other than breakfast. Or for huge gin & tonics.
Anyone remember the West End Cafe? It was across from the park east tower, when the park east tower was Kean Drugs. That was a good breakfast place.
If I lived in the park east tower, there's no way I wouldn't be at the Majestic every morning.

No, not the Parkmoor. The one I'm thinking of was near the corner of Whydown Blvd and S Handley Rd.

I worked at Cafe Paradiso in '98. It was right at the corner. Cafe Manhattan, a couple storefronts east on Wydown had what you might call diner decor, like chrome, and black/white checker designs.
That was it, the one with the black/white checker designs. For what it was, I thought the food was great. And the place was clean.

It is still there, they just moved to the end of the building closest to downtown Clayton. It has the same decor but has lost its charm with the expansion.

The retail space in between Starbuck's and 5th/3rd Bank on Euclid has a "leased" sign in the window, but no clues as to what might go in the space. Discuss....
Would someone please tell the owners of Manhattan Cafe that I want them to open a location in the CWE? Preferably, on the corner spot at the Forest Park Hotel (I think that's its name) at West Pine and Euclid. If you do, I'll buy you a lollipop.
I posted this comment yesterday but it disappeared. Did I violate some rule? Let's try again, here goes.
I have heard the tenant next to starbucks is a beauty supply company.

do u think the success of this building could lead to several more developments once the market picks up a bit

No, because of idiots like Patti Tepper. (See thread for Lindell Condiminiums)
On a slightly less pessimistic tone, after the economy turns around I would believe that the success of tshese projects would be followed by others, OPUS has allready continued to try new development and would be proceeding with tower two right now if St. Louis could free itself of the old backward thinking residents that continue to protet quality products for fear that we might (OH MY GOD) actually become a thriving metropolis with the CITY as the center.
rant over.

There's no official height restriction. Seems like we have to go over this every couple months. Somebody has pounded the false idea of height restriction into St. Louisans, and we can't get over it. I won't get into the fine details of where there are some restrictions.

With so many people believing there is a height cap in St. Louis, the city needs to pass a formal resolution stating that there is not now nor will there be a height cap in downtown St. Louis. Then the news can cover the story and people will hopefully learn that we only have a mental height cap right now.

Not at all, actually. The question posted was "do u think the success of this building could lead to several more developments once the market picks up a bit?" I responded with the example of Lindell Tower, which was, in a sense, rejected due to its height. The real problem, however, is that certain people in this city (Patti Tepper) seem to think that we should hold onto StL in its present form forever, thinking which will, inevitably, leave this city in the 20th century instead of the 21st. So, while height was a concern, the ultimate end to Lindell Tower was the "historical district" in which it was located. An utter shame and failure of the system. Enough b*tching and moaning, however, as this is getting fairly off topic.
