I have been hearing more and more about this project and its pretty incredible... can't help but think of River Des Peres when I hear about it (not the same project but I can't help it, lol), but a truly incredible city infrastructure project for the games, and will make the entire river swimmable for the city in 2025. So cool.

Opening Ceremony Unveiled

For the first time in history, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will not take place in a stadium. On 26 July 2024, exactly one year from now, thousands of athletes will parade in boats along the Seine, the river that flows through Paris, in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators. Here is what you need to know about the spectacular event.

There should be more boat parades in general but it doesn't really work in St. louis. Our rivers are either too big or too small.  Chicago could do it.

Yeah I agree, but the project is still amazing.

Will make a really amazing scene for the olympics - I can already see the drone videos for this being incredible. They have already had a few test trials for the World Triathlon that met the water quality requirements - few cancelled too.

How to (Quickly) Build a Cycling City - Paris

Not to mention they are brute forcing high level bike infrastructure upon the whole city in the matter of several years. It's truly inspiring what Paris is doing right now. The days of Paris being known as a car sewer are over, it will be a whole new city by 2026.

^Agreed, Mayor Hidalgo seems like a pretty impressive leader.

I've always felt that American cities like St. Louis need a Marshall plan like this and not just for big events like Olympics. Atlanta damn near transformed overnight when they had the 96 Olympics, but Olympic games should not be the only reason we invest in our cities.

^That might be something we can agree on. We need massive, federal investment to rebuild and bring jobs.

Honestly the fix for the Seine is similar to what MSD is doing at the River Des Peres - I just came across the hand out from a River Des Peres watershed meeting from 20 years ago - It went into the trails (which did get built) and then mentioned a possible phase II with weir dams, pools etc... I think we need to reconsider it again
