It would be great if those businesses committed to selling their shares to LGBTQIA+, specifically POC.

Please make the grove gay again!
Don't think that'll happen. At least not to the extent of what it. used to be. Happened in CWE and now its happening in the grove.

Make a new nightspot / neighborhood. There's lots of cheap, available space along Delmar, East Loop all the way to the CWE...

At this point the Landing is cheap and vacant enough to come out well from the inevitable nightlife shell game to come from this situation and more largely the pandemic.

Pretty sure it's already happening.  South Broadway in Patch area seems to be the spot (Traxx, Hummel's/Bar:PM).  Gay bars are an early sign of a neighborhoods future rise;  CWE in the late 70's/early 80's (Herbies, Loading Zone, Gay 90's, Brandy's, The Earl, Fairmont Hotel), Soulard in late 80's (Clementine's, Scarlett's, Supper Club, Front Page, Bastille, Michael's), Wash Ave in 90's (Fallout, Twist, Kaos, Club 747), Manchester/Grove Early 2000's (Attitudes, Erney's 32 Degrees, Freddie's, Honey, Novaks, Nancy's Place, Oscars, Grandmas, Premium Lounge, Rainbow's End, Nites +many more).  It's no coincidence property speculators start buying once these bar clusters are established.

It's been said by many Urban Planners; gay bars and underground club and rave warehouse locations in the late 80's and early 90's were instrumental in setting the stage for gentrification of downtrodden areas in many US cities.  Those "scary" areas where twenty-somethings partied are now where they live.

I disagree.  The Landing has no cachet.  Tourist dominated areas usually don't.  The Landing's legacy exists today in the Cupples Buildings.  Same demo (young, mainstream, largely collegiate).

Can someone elaborate on this story? Title says sexual abuse but then in the article they just say mental abuse and manipulation. What was the guy doing?

Let's make sure that we note these are accusations, not confirmations. I'm not at all trying to discount what may have happened, but I don't want to presume guilt before we know what's up. If something happened, I'd like for law enforcement and the courts to control this, not just internet gossiping, know what I mean?

Without an ounce of doubt i know that he is a cocaine dealer. So with that as a starting point I think the accusations of sexual assault are credible

Still looking to see the actual accusations. I've been to Parlor a couple of times but don't know anyone involved with the place.  When I see "sexual abuse" written I think this guy was raping people which it doesn't seem like.

And yet more residential is planned for the Landing, poising it to be less tourist driven.  I hold a lot of hope for it.

Getting this thread back on track a bit... a few Board Bills should be voted on by the BoA today or early next week (it's been a flurry of meetings so I've lost track of what is where in the process).  1417-1433 Tower Grove Ave is on the Perfection Consent calendar and there's another interesting zoning bill for some land on Folsom (yes, it's technically Botanical Heights, but close enough for this thread) where it sounds like the empty lots at the NE corner of Folsom and Klemm will be rezoned to for 3 or 4 new single family homes.

Question out there for the history buffs of the area - what's the deal with all the shipping containers (like at Rockwell Beer Company) and all the corrugated metal on the new town homes and other new construction on Vista? I know there's a metal company and lots of train tracks just East of Vandeventer but is there some other reason for this style here?

I don't believe there's any deeper reason than it being an aesthetic choice by the architects and/or developers.  Especially for whatever new construction homes on Vista that might use it.  They probably just wanted to mix in something different from brick, hardie board, etc.

They have started on land prep for the homes on Folsum. I was told by a rep. at a neighborhood open house last Sunday that all currently available lots have been sold both on Folsum and throughout the neighborhood. Not sure if this was true but if it is I'm looking forward to seeing more new construction on Lafayette in the coming months.

I thought they still had some lots available on Lafayette.  I don't see any other building permits filed except for the two that are under construction now, but maybe they sold them that weekend?  Either way, driving through and it looks like there are a few other options in the neighborhood that aren't listed on Zillow.  I saw at least one lot for sale by owner and a house that had a small (and I nearly missed it) for sale by owner sign in front too.  So hopefully future development investments can just shift over to Tiffany or even the Gate District.

Also, looks like 4157 Folsom (the lot directly north of the intersection of Folsom & Klemm) has had all of its overgrown vegetation cleared.  The old semi-trailer that's been there for years is still around, but I would guess its days are numbered too.  This is owned City Garden Montessori as well as the warehouse immediately to the west of it.  No building permits appear to be filed for this, but at the very least is something to keep an eye on since they do have some lofty expansion goals (https://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/su ... w#stream/0)

The old gas station at 1415 S Vandeventer Ave, that's been used as tow truck storage lot for years, recently was cleared out and is sitting empty.  The only vehicle left is a camper that appears to have fire damage that's parked on the road out front.  I don't see any permits on GeoSTL and haven't found any zoning change requests.  Anyone know what's going on?

My guess is that it recently sold to some developer or property speculator, but zero idea what the long term plan might be.

Oh and someone this last week cleaned a ton of graffiti off of the Liberty Bell Oil Company building.  Doesn't look like any other work occurred, and graffiti is still visible on some of the sides and at the top, but at least they're keeping an eye on it.

The Assessor's website shows a daily date of 7/1/2020 which I think means a transfer of ownership.

You're right.  Looks like it sold for $250k 7/1.  Unfortunately, the owner's LLC address traces back to 120 Central Ave in Clayton so that's most likely just Wolters Kluwer registered agent services address.

Sounds cheap. Wonder if there's an underground fuel tank to remediate.
