It looks like the front half of the North Avenue Beach House in Chicago.  That patio will rock.

I think this will be great for that funky lot.  However, looking at the article and seeing what was there in '59 brings great sadness.

True. Also, God, how scary it must have been to be a pedestrian back then?

Good to see something built there. I like the Manchester side more than the Vandeventer side. Will this be white like the renderings show or a different color?
( Sarcasm alert) The Vandeventer side strives to create that quintessential indefensible space where pedestrians could get mugged , or panhandled at least.

A high profile design for a high profile spot. This will be a crown jewel for the Grove.

Looks great. Could be some nice views of Midtown and Downtown from that upstairs corner. That narwhal over the prow reminds me of this Tower Tee classic:

This gets me excited for the Grove. I hope there are more cool/unique ideas like this to come.

Love it! Looks so much better than the previous proposal with the shipping containers. Anyone know when that idea died?

Looks like there is a public meeting scheduled for the Narwhal's project (from Alderwoman Sweet-T's Twitter page): Narhwal's meeting

November 17th at SPACE Architect's on Manchester, or Zoom

^ i have issue if the replacement looks as cheap and impermanent as 4400 and 4440. again, no reason the facades of these buildings, at the very least, couldn't be integrated into new construction as happens frequently in other cities.

Such a quality presentation and project. Tom Niemeier/SPACE and Brad & Brandon have really thought through the experience as a guest and passerby. Everybody in attendance was in support. Next is a letter of support from the alderwoman to the board of adjustment.

For the curious, the mural on the south side of the building will not be an octopus. TBD.

Platypus, a new bar at Taylor and Manchester, opened last night. There also appeared to be a sign with a name on it (missed it while driving) at the storefront facing Manchester right about at Newstead. This was to be a vegan ice cream place but never opened. Looks like something else will soon!

^ Haven't heard.

Also moving into FPSE is Bootleggin'. Moving from downtown to the corner of Chouteau/Taylor, into the former Golden Grocer spot.

95% sure they're closed. Bootleggin' could be occupying a section of the building, but Golden Grocer's site and Facebook pages are gone.

Alderwoman Pihl shared the info about Bootleggin' at her 17th Ward meeting. Details were sparse.

Bummer for the neighborhood. It was nice to have both corners of that building used by restaurants, now no restaurants.
