^ Maybe this is an answer to recent narratives that Stenger is not a regional guy and not really cooperating with the city.

Alex posted a copy of the letter. Think it is huge and maybe City and County are talking about a lot more then people giving them credit for. Especially considering the ripping that Stenger got for his GE letter.

St. Clair County is optimistic. The last part of the article doesn't make it sound too appealing

BND - County leaders excited because NGA could draw thousands more spinoff jobs
In 2010, NGA moved its national headquarters out of Washington, D.C. to a site outside of Springfield and on the grounds of Fort Belvoir, Va. NGA built a 2.7 million-square-foot building to house 8,500 employees, which soon bumped up to 11,000 workers.

One of the things that brought NGA to Fort Belvoir was the availability of plentiful land at the site, according to Manney.

“Because of NGA’s security requirements, they like where they are because it’s big, open and they have no immediate next-door neighbors,” Manney said.

Springfield economic officials anticipated a boom in housing prices, but that didn’t happen, as most NGA workers, who were already commuting to Washington, D.C. from Maryland and Virginia had apparently decided to hang on to their current homes, Manney said.

“We really haven’t seen a major boom,” she said. “There’s been a little bit of retail that has come along. But a lot of that retail was already planned...I cannot say that any kind of economic boom is directly tied to NGA.”

The biggest impact so far of NGA’s presence in Fairfax County was the fact that it led to the release of federal funds to complete the final two-mile section on the Fairfax County Parkway, Manney said.

“And simply because it got the Fairfax County Parkway completed, that’s why it was a big thing,” she said.

BND is really promoting the NGA moving to Illinois. Almost seems like an article comes out daily. Hopefully, the government does feel the NGA can help bring some life to an otherwise blighted area. As much as I hate to see demo in that area, the NGA must stay in St. Louis City!

City to 'officially' vote to use eminent domain for NGA site. New renderings.

It was mentioned somewhere on twitter this morning that the city is talking with house movers for NGIA project - so there is hope that part of the remaining historic buildings will remain moved to adjoining blocks.

Anyone go to the meeting? I'm curious to hear how NGA helps surrounding neighborhoods. From a regional perspective this is the best of the 4 sites because job sprawl is o damaging. But a fortress just doesn't seem neighborhoody to me.

Only thing NGA doesn't mess with is security and privately they have a lot of concerns with that for the north city location and it might be enough concern to get them to go across the river

There really shouldn't be a concern about safety, especially from a large government agency. I'd imagine their security will be top notch. The area is also pretty desolate and devoid of human activity.

That would certainly be ironic. The federal government avoiding that area for security concerns that they helped create with the poor conceived Pruitt Igoe.

I don't see the criminals in north city being a threat to the NGA. I think they're more concerned about terrorists, both foreign and domestic.

i have to agree with goat314—i don't think they're more concerned about security there than than they are about security elsewhere. there's really no reason for them to be.

I don't trust this administration's ability to get involved in everything...President is a proud Illinoisan very tight with Durbin....watch out.

Not excusing the disaster that was Pruitt Igoe, but that area was rough for decades. Part of my family came out of the Kerry Patch area and I've heard the stories.

^True. I wasn't trying to put the blame solely on the Fed's, but they certainly played a role in making it worse.

^ I don't know if the US Govt. has said anything about that.... they'll still own it and with the historical significance it likely will remain so. I could see some other government jobs shifted over there; otherwise, I suspect we'll see some kind of movement towards a historical park.

More than likely it will be razed and we'll publicly finance a stadium for the Rams to play the games they wear their throwback jerseys in.
