In the long term, I think STLCity needed that ass kicking tonight. They have a whole off-season to develop, a lot of practicing to do. It was an enjoyable bright spot to have them be so relevant in their first year, but it goes to show that Pfannensteil has his work cut out for him. Right now I think it's pretty obvious that their strategy of creating and capitalizing on mistakes is a good one, but it's by no means an entire game plan.
This game was the perfect storm. Terrible weather, terrible start time, poor choice of line-up and lack of any momentum. City's fate had already been decided for weeks, while KC has been fighting for their lives for a while now. They are battle-tested and we have been on a bit of a losing streak. I was shocked to see the line-up remained the same after half. Sam Adeniran should have started. Jackson was ineffective. Nielson and Blom had rough games. Lowen & Stroud looked off their game. I credit KC, but at the same time, City looked nervous, out of sync and the pressure kept mounting with every missed pass and shot. I think we still got a shot, but major adjustments in tactic and line-up are a must. Hopefully, they can bring the series back to STL.
I didn’t want to play SK for various reasons. One of which is if we lost it really would put a stain on a great season. I went into last night not feeling very confident and unfortunately that is how it panned out. For some reason I feel a lot better going into game 2 than game 1. Not sure the reason but hopefully the boys turn it around.
And also play 2 forwards! That formation last night was a terrible decision.
Not the way many of us hoped the season would end, but let’s give our boys credit. They played well and deserve to take a bow. For a new team, they did extremely well. Now they know what to do better next year.
There's a ton of cities that didn't get a game: Seattle, Boston, Chicago, etc, etc. And they have NFL stadiums that also house their MLS teams. Let's not read too deep into this as some slight against St. Louis or that the city missed out on some sure thing.

It's really the 2x KC stadiums, plus getting WC games that's really irritating.

I don’t think it’s double the games for KC it’s the USA game is in arrowhead and the others are in the soccer stadium. That I do find understandable.

Might be true, but still odd. No other cities/metros are splitting games like that. Give KC the Arrowhead games and put the other games in a different city's MLS stadium. Or vice-versa.

It also helps big time that the Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is deep in to the US Soccer organization. If he wasn't, there'd be no way Kansas City would be getting these games.
There's a 1000 other things to worry about than being pissed at/jealous of Kansas City for getting World Cup games.
I'm not upset about KC getting games. I just wish we had lobbied harder for some games ourselves. Especially considering KC has two venues, those could have easily been in STL
I heard the MLS Commissioner Don Garber this morning on MSNBC promoting the MSL Finals this Saturday at 4 Eastern. Good to hear him say, among other things, "New team in St. Louis that sold out every game and did really well on the field." No other teams mentioned except the 2 in the finals.
Also showed graphics that saiid 2023 was the largest total attendance year in a single season in league history at 10,900,804. Average attendance has grown 40% over the last 15 years. Talked about how soccer is on the rise in the US.
Then talked about the Messi effect. Global audience has gone up dramatically. Was Time athlete of the year. Messi jersey is the number one selling jersey in the world for all sports including NBA jerseys. In 2026, Messi will be here playing for Argentina, he presumes.

The Hunt family is 100% the reason St Louis was locked out of a team for so long. Screw them

I must have missed all those proposals for teams in STL that they stopped.

I'm not sure what happened regarding MLS but I share the sentiment of saying screw the Hunt family for the fact that they were very active in promoting Stan Kroenke's proposal for LA and wanted the Rams out of STL so they could have all of MO for themselves. Screw the Chiefs, Kroenke and the NFL.

I’m fine saying screw them for NFL reasons and seeing Mahomes be a crybaby today put a smile on my face. But I don’t think they have done anything to block soccer here. I was more under the impression they have wanted a team here so they finally have a real rivalry…. And we can fill their stadium for them…
Recently attended a tour of CITY Park (part of a conference that was in town) and our guide said Carolyn Kindle's main goal right now (beyond making CITY as success) is landing a Women's (NWSL) Soccer team. I know were not in the first round of possible expansions but I feel good about our chances in the next 3-5 years.
I finally went to a game at CityPark to see CITY2, on one of the hottest days of the year. Sat staring into the sun and sweating ourselves to death because the shaded part of the stadium is too nice for us general admission schmucks. Won't be able to get my parents to go back, I don't think.

I think all City2 tickets are GA? For $15…
Yes, $13 (unless they raised prices from last year)

I think $15 after fees. Seems like a good deal to me.
