Still haven't gotten my Real ID. On the bright side got my passport renewal in 9 days. Something still works.
SB192 would require the St. Louis sheriff to have a peace officer's license within 2 years of taking office.

Police department takeover passed. Will the City sue? Using the legislature to override actions taken by referendum feels like a due process violation
Voters can make and change laws via referendum. MOLeg can make and change laws. Voters can put a law passed by MOLeg up to a referendum too. That's how the Right to Work law got put on the ballot.
We have a lot of power that many states don't have. It's a way to overcome gerrymandering and geographical sorting.

I get that. But referendums carry a higher exercise of due process than than an act of a legislature. Just like an act of the legislature carries a higher degree of due process than an executive order.
Legislative gutting or repeal of laws/actions taken by referendum feels like a due process violation and potentially unconstitutional.
In other words, I think there may be a good argument that the only way to repeal a law passed by referendum without violating the due process clause is by another referendum

Don't worry, MOLeg is about to repeal the minimum wage hike and sick time referendum too.
State is a joke. Not sure how anyone can take our legislature seriously. They repeatedly try to claw back and repeal things passed by a referendum and now they're talking about taking the Florida path of raising the barrier to be able to pass them from 50 to 55 or 60%. They have zero solutions for any of the problems the state faces.
Lowkey we probably would be better off leaving the state and becoming our own. At least we'd get federal state tax dollars directly given to us and not squandered away by the state legislature like they always do.

Not sure MOLeg continually pissing off its heavily-armed constituency is a winning play, but we'll see how it plays out lmao.
MOLeg didn't get the memo that energy costs were supposed to go down by half by Jan 20 2026.

Is it corruption or is it common sense when an industry leader is in your state? Not sure I'd want this to go to AWS?
Asking for a friend. From the internet. That likes wrestling.

The lawsuit says that the agency is subverting competitive bidding laws to prefer WWT. Regardless if you think that WWT would be better than AWS or some other company, I may not disagree, the law still appears to be violated. But we'll see what a court says.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Mar 24, 2025Is it corruption or is it common sense when an industry leader is in your state? Not sure I'd want this to go to AWS?

To absolutely no one's surprise, Kehoe is now against this.An initiative effort begun Friday by a well-known Missouri Democrat would, if passed by voters next year, force Tesla to close its St. Louis and Kansas City showrooms.
Brad Ketcher, a St. Louis attorney who was chief of staff to Democratic Gov. Mel Carnahan in the 1990s, said he hopes the effort spreads to other states to fight back against Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his lead role in mass federal layoffs and budget cuts for President Donald Trump.
“If Elon Musk was not cutting Medicaid and Social Security and veterans health to fund a tax cut for billionaires and doing it with a bizarre glee, we would not be asking Missourians to say this guy does not deserve to be doing business in this state,” Ketcher said. “We would not be trying to drive this in Missouri.”
...
The petition drive would not be the first attempt to use state law to keep Tesla from opening its company-owned showrooms in Missouri. In 2014, Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe, then a state senator, helped write a provision for a bill that fell just short of passing to require all auto manufacturers to sell their vehicles through a franchise dealership.
Kehoe owned Ford and Lincoln-Mercury franchises in Jefferson City from 1992 to 2011. He sold the dealerships before entering politics.
He told the Springfield News-Leader in 2014 that he was surprised the department issued a dealership license to Tesla.
“Our question as dealers and people I know in the business: how in the world when we’ve worked so hard to get franchise legislation, how in the world could that be possible?” Kehoe said to the News-Leader.
As much as I despise Elmo, Apple has stores, Microsoft, Nike, Lego, etc have stores. If a car company wants to have its own stores, they should be able to.

Yeah, honestly manufacturers should be allowed to sell directly to customers. One other benefit to keep in mind is removing the outsize influence local car dealerships have on local GOP politics - get rid of dealerships and you'd remove a lot of Republican influence in rural communities.

Really just giving us so many reasons to want to leave the state and join Illinois. Definition of "we hate you and want you to die".

At least they recognize we’re the most powerful force in MO, not KC.
Anyway, this is an easy bluff to call.

St. Louis mayor, governor discuss Rams funds, downtown investment during meeting at Capitol

- Both agree investments in Downtown are key. Likely difference on how.
- Cara has a cautious approach to police takeover. I don’t think she’s interested in litigation or compromising further the poor state relationship.
- Cara emphasized importance of earnings tax.

I know it's a virtual impossibility to actually do it, but I wouldn't mind if St. Louis would symbolically pursue independence from the state of Missouri, as its own state or as a member of Illinois, in an effort to get into national news and shame Missouri leaders.
^ I agree with the idea but it is not possible and the only ones impacted by the media of that discussion would be those in the City. The state can be worse and pettier. There are reps right now that would be willing to repeal the earnings tax knowing it would bankrupt the City. Let’s not tempt them and instead appeal to the more reasonable that exists on both sides.

The "we hate you and want you to die" party sent the capital gains tax cut to the governor, will cut revenue by $430 million in its first year, $340 million annually moving forward.
So, we don't have money to pay our teachers an actually competitive wage, we don't want to fund MO Medicaid, KC's public transit is being held together by a thread, we don't want to commit money to redevelop downtown STL or KC, we certainly don't want to spend any money actually improving our state's standard of living or infrastructure. But we can apparently spare $300M+ in revenue per year from mostly higher income individuals and corporations.
