I would hope this means an Allegiant base is in the near future. I can't see them expanding without that coming down the pipe.

A few stats for November 2020 for Allegiant out of there.

Load %
Orlando 88%
Tampa/St. Pete 87%
Punta Gorda 84%
Destin 71%
Sarasota 65%

Much better than I anticipated. 3 of 5 in the mid to high 80s.

Allegiant also pushed their schedule out thru mid November 2021

Vegas looks to be back to year round after taking off in the Aug-Jan the last 2 years.
Newly added Charleston looks to at least be running part of fall/winter. It takes a break mid August-September but comes back in October.
Jacksonville/Savannah/Myrtle Beach are still summer only
Destin is at least daily from March-October

Summer is scheduled to have 45 flights a week with up to 9 flights a day. I think their previous max a week was 37.

Just want to post the updated rendering. The addition looks better since they added more glass and the awning.

"Potentially" a sizable expansion for Allegiant  from BLV including a base. I figured they were on the short list for a base but I wouldn't have expected an expansion like this, if it indeed happens. They make it sound like they are confident in the letter though.

With all the support letters from different government agencies/politicians I would think they will get the grant. They took some liberties with their points on service at STL, but I can't blame them for stretching things a bit.

Seeking federal grant, to offer start-up cost offsets and marketing support to a LCC to expand service to seven targeted destinations (SAN/LAX/SNA/EWR/BWI/DEN/OAK) on both coasts. It will also seek to secure an airline crew and aircraft base.

This line got me, "[MidAmerica] is positioned in the fastest-growing part of the St. Louis metro – on the Illinois side of the bi-state area." Goes to your point of them taking a few liberties.

Good luck to them. I hope they get the $490,000. Adding St. Louis' only flights to Oakland and Orange County and having an additional flight to Newark would be great.

Outside of Allegiant, what airlines could grow at BLV? Maybe better question... what airlines would want to grow at BLV?

I don't think anyone. Everyone else is at Lambert. The only domestic airlines that don't serve St. Louis are JetBlue and Hawaiian and I don't think either would choose BLV as they have partnerships/alliances with airlines at Lambert.

Also, Allegiant might prefer it that way. For the three top airports they serve: Sanford, Clearwater, and Punta Gorda they are the only game in town. It might be part fo their business model that they try and carve out entire airports to themselves.

Another line from it in respect to timeline.

"The Airport and its partners have already started discussions with Allegiant about the potential to develop a base at MidAmerica
and about the targeted expansion. Because Allegiant is familiar with the business plan, the Airport anticipates completing an agreement for additional service by the fall of 2021 (refer to chart 13). The Airport is targeting spring of 2022 as a start date for the first new route launch, with more new routes being rolled out over a period of two years."

Southwest's flight to Oakland is scheduled to start back up in May. Although I could see it get pushed back and start in June instead.

Orange County is the largest unserved airport from STL so that one makes some sense.

Breeze. They are going to focus on secondary airports. No clue where they have STL in their list of airports to start at but I think it would be a possibility for BLV.

Great news, thanks for the updates jshank.

I really enjoy using BLV, parking and security lines are an absolute breeze (pun intended).  Allegiant services airports which are convenient for me and the fares are unbelievably low.

Since the switch to A320 equipment, I haven't heard nearly as many reports of issues like they had with the old mad dogs.

I've only flown with them one trip.  Outbound was on one of those MD's and I've never felt more moist on a flight.  Return was on their newer Airbus and it couldn't have been a more different experience.

Has Allegiant fixed/tuned up their previously documented maintenance SNAFU's?  They were basically deferring maintenance to the point of malfeasance a few years back, weren't they?

I’m under the impression once they got rid of their Mad Dogs (and 757s) things are a lot better. They even bought a few brand new planes for the first time. I have seen anything safety related come up in the last couple years (but I also haven’t been searching for it)

I am not sure there is a better airport than BLV at getting grants to pay for things.

They get another one.

Scott AFB/MidAmerica, Belleville, Illinois, more than $12.6 million For expanding the terminal building to accommodate existing passenger demand and meet security and ADA requirements.

Due to this they are moving their end date for the terminal expansion up a year to December 2022

I’m pretty convinced they show up at STL, not BLV if they come.

They didn’t pick any secondary airports unless you count Akron. Did Tampa (not St Pete), PIT (not Latrobe), Columbus (not Rinkenbacker).

MidAmerica Airport expanding terminal, adding flights to new destinations
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... 0#cxrecs_s
With more than 340,000 travelers projected to walk through the doors at MidAmerica in 2021, things are starting to get a bit cramped.  “The sky is the limit, or in this case, the space is the limit,” said Bryan Johnson, director of MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

That problem will soon be a thing of the past thanks in part to roughly $13 million in federal funding that will allow the airport to double in size.  “It’s all about passenger throughput,” said Johnson. “We want to make sure that’s as convenient for the traveler as possible.”  Johnson said work is already underway to relocate security, add additional concessions, and more gates to accommodate more travelers.

“With more gates and terminal expansion will come more flights,” said Johnson. “We already know that. We’re looking forward to expanding that schedule even further, most certainly to the east and we’re also looking towards the west.”

Midamerica did not get chosen for this grant. I personally don’t think it will matter.

Allegiant is I the middle of loading their summer schedule.

St. Pete and Punta Gorda go daily for the first time. Join Destin with that distinction.

Vegas goes to 3x weekly for the first time.

Mesa, AZ stops in mid may. Which is later than past years.

Up 2 flights a week from this past summer

Because 4 airlines to cancun isn't already enough....

Allegiant and Viva Aerobus are applying for a partnership. One of the first routes would be BLV to Cancun....

Just took a trip out of BLV over the Thanksgiving weekend. The new gate construction is well under way and the steel skeleton and metal floor is in place, full speed ahead.

Both flights were almost completely full, BLV - PGD then PIE - BLV.

The Pandemic induced shift to more domestic non business travel bouncing back over traditional business travel couldn't have come at a better time for Allegiant Air IMO.

I skratch my head on Cancun overall.   Could very well be mistaken but i thought most of the Mexican beach towns/resort tourism was pretty much flat.  Not so much because of Covid,  We did the xmas w family the previous year in Mexico because it was easier for us to go to Mexico and then family to come from Mexico.   But the fact that drug use is up and the associated violence seems to be creeping into these resort towns.   However, some regions such as St. Louis keep adding flights or maybe its just less frequent service from Hubs and more direct competitive service.
