Thanks for posting these, very interesting to look at (and see the differences from what ultimately got built). Is that a 4-track station at Stadium? Do you, or anyone, know what the plan was with that?sc4mayor wrote: ↑Apr 04, 2023Here's some blasts from the past courtesy of the 1987 FEIS for the initial Airport-Central Corridor MetroLink line.

^ I missed that originally but yes, it was. It looks like the initial plan called for the two thru tracks and a third side track. The fourth track and additional side platform would have come later. The plaza where the tracks dead end is called the "Surge Deck." I wonder if it was designed with large stadium crowds in mind. Busch Stadium sat nearly 60,000 people at the time of this report. None of the other stations were originally proposed with a similar configuration that I can find.
My guess is they were able to eliminate the additional tracks and platforms by moving the station north of Spruce and having switchback ramps and staircases access the two platforms from both Clark and Spruce instead of the Spruce only access here.

^^^Thanks for the additional info, a surge platform for game crowds certainly would make sense. Whether eliminated because of redesign or "value engineering" I do think the more northern platform that got built works better for day-to-day operation as it's a block closer to most destinations it services. Based on the rendering (before I saw the additional plans you found) I thought maybe it was there to accommodate a branch line in the 7th Street/Soulard direction, but I can still dream.

^I loved that glass barrel vault. Miss the one at Ridgway House too.
