That's great news - that space has been empty way too long. Keep us posted on anything you hear.

Congrats on your purchase - do you know when construction is supposed to be completed? It looks like there is less construction equipment out in front of the building, perhaps the exterior work is just about done?

They told me the completion date was November 06 but it could be done sooner. They are ahead of schedule.

Thanks for the info! I hope they improve the sidewalk and add trees, lights, etc. before it's all done. It will be nice to be able to walk down the street in front of the building again.

I agree about the streetscape. It would be nice to have some nice landscaping around the building. I don't know if they will be opening up the sidewalks anytime soon due to the fact that they are still cleaning the outside of the building. It would be nice to get a closer look but I think we may be stuck with the views from across the streets for awhile.

Looks like the windows on the top six floors have been removed - I guess we should be seeing new windows installed soon.

Talked to the people in the Sales office last week and they are still determined to get everyone in the building by this November/December (Including rental units)

I can't believe my eyes! They are restoring the building cornice completely from scratch and it looks great! Probably some kind of caste resin product.

It looks like the Broadway side is just about done - all the new windows are in, the facade is clean, and it looks great.

PostJun 07, 2006#88

The construction crews are no longer closing off 1-2 lanes of Broadway!

Here's some news on the Marquette from the P-D:

The radio tower atop downtown's Marquette Building is one of the tallest structures in town, rivaling One Metropolitan Square. But its demise may be near.

Steve Smith, head of the Lawrence Group, which is redeveloping the Marquette into condominiums, says he is leaning towards dismantling the 150-foot tower for safety reasons.

It has not been used since a radio station left the 19-story building at Broadway and Olive Street decades ago. "We figure, if anyone is going to take it down, the time is now, while the entire building is under construction," Smith said.

The question is how to do it safely. Some of the steel beams that make up the tower, many of them weighing hundreds of pounds, stand more than 400 feet above the St. Louis streets. "We're talking with lots of people about how we could do this," said Smith.

I am new to this chat but my fiance and I purchased a unit as did some of our friends and we have been counting down the days. It would be great to get rid of that tower although it adds some character. Hopefully they will put a bigger pool with a wet bar instead. I will make sure to run that by Stu my favorite architect.

Welcome to the forum and glad to have you downtown where everything is going on and will continue to change.

One query, where are you moving from?

Thanks! I have been renting in Soulard (Benton Park) for the last 3 years. I love that area but am really excited to get downtown.

That tower always reminded me of Dick Tracy. I don't know why, it just does. I'm not sorry to see it go, though.

(oops...I guess that name is taboo  )

I don't know if any of you have been by here lately, but the west side of the building looks great. Sparkling white with new windows. The Lawrence Group, in my opinion, does some excellent work inside and out. I'm sure Park Pacific will exceed my expectations.

On another note . . . I had heard that the rentals (Floors 3-9) were going to have some different floor plans than the condos. . . anyone seen any floorplans for those and the price/month?

I haven't seen any new info on the Marquette lately so I thought I would post to see if anyone has heard anymore details on the apartment or retail in the building? Also any buyers have a chance to view their place lately?

PostAug 15, 2006#97

I heard that there will be a TCBY and a Subway going into the space at the Marquette. They said Feb 07 as potential date. Anybody else hear anything about this?

I didn't know TCBY still existed.

And Subway? Not bad I guess. We do need more affordable eating options downtown.

Interesting. Does anyone know how many retail spaces the building will have? The old bank vault space on the Broadway side would probably be good for a large restaurant - maybe the TCBY and Subway will go in on the Olive Street side.
