TCBY is an Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt place. Guess this would be a good addition since there really isn't a place like this. The only other dessert joint I know of is on Washington. Guess we can all gain weight at TCBY and then start the "Jared" diet at Subway to take it all off.

As far as the space on Broadway . . . they are trying to lure a restaurant/bar type of place there. Last I heard was some Greek restaurant but that may have been thrown out the window.

I like the idea of using the bank space for a restaurant. In Cincinnati's Hyde Park there is a cool place called Teller's in an old bank. The atmosphere of ex-bank's seems custom fit for restaurants. Worked well for the new Shannon's, too (private dining areas in vaults and such).

Those of a certain age will remember First Federal Frank and Crust was in an old bank in Clayton, with part of the dining room in the vault. I'm not sure if the building is there anymore.

I have seen the vault in the Marquette and it is pretty impressive. Word has it is that someone is interested in putting a martini lounge in there. It would be a great atmosphere for one. Let's cross our fingers! Anybody hear news regarding the Italian joint across the street on Olive?

TCBY still exists but pulled out of the St Louis market years ago.

If I remember correctly, it means "The Country's Best Yogurt"

Marquette condo conversion nears completion

St. Louis Business Journal - 2:34 PM CDT Monday

The Marquette Building's conversion from a bank building to luxury condominiums is nearing completion, according to a release Monday.

St. Louis-based The Lawrence Group designed and developed the project, located at 300 N. Broadway downtown. Homeowner orientations begin in September, followed by closings for 65 condos by January 2007, representing nearly $20 million in condominium sales. Only 16 condominiums remain, the release stated.

Additionally, the Marquette will debut Sept. 14 its 36 boutique urban apartments with 11 floor plan choices ranging from 520 square feet to 1,373 square feet. The units will be priced from $650 to $2,100 per month and will be ready for a November or December move-in, according to the release.

The Lawrence Group provides architectural, interior design, planning and real estate development services.

I ran into my favorite achritect Stu at the Bamboo Bistro today and he informed me that a few people are very interested in converting the basement of the building into a martini/sushi bar. Using the old bank vault as a possible party room since it would be hard to get plumbing into it. Also part of the Lawrence Group is moving into the second floor of the building as well. Hopefully to keep an eye on their baby.

It looks like the antenna on the Marquette is on it's way down. There was a man risking his life up there yesterday taking it apart while 7 other workers stood around thankful it wasn't their job.

That's great, I was hoping it would come down.

The antenna is slowly coming down - there's just a little bit of it left to remove. It's definitely an improvement.

I think the dismantling of the antenna may have to wait a bit due to recent developments. Last week one of the workers fell approx. 50 feet to the roof and has been in critical condition this week. From what I heard he will make it. This really puts things in perspective and I know my thoughts are with him. The story was on the news and in the paper.

Not at all true. There are several TCBY's in STL ... including downtown at Union Station foodcourt.

Just an FYI.

A friend of mine at school was talking about how she stayed with family over the holidays who live at the Marquette building. So, I know of at least one person who has moved in.

I looked up today and notice that they have rebuilt the cornice on the Olive Street side of the building. It looks very nice.

The building is now complete and almost 100% occupied. The Lawrence Group did a great job on the design however I feel some attention to detail has been overlooked by the construction team. All of it being minor things that could and should be taken care of but it is approaching a year from when people starting moving in so I am a little concerned. The condo association is taking shape and I am sure they will address these concerns with the Lawrence Group soon. I just hope they stand by their slogan of "defined by detials" for this project.

(Almost) 100% occupied? Really? That's great news.

I agree with MOFORGOV statements above. The building is beautiful, however, it seems there is some unfinished business that was really left behind without anyone caring for it. Also, there were some things promised to us when we were looking to buy that were blatant lies. The doorman hours, for instance, were supposedly covered under the condo fee rate that they told us, but we came to find out later that it was only going to cover the hours for the first few months. . . I would just suggest to anyone looking at other projects to question the Lawrence Group and their reps thoroughly before committing. I do love living in the building and love being downtown, just a few things that become aggravating after awhile.

Considering it's been almost two years since the last post, can anyone give an update on this building? I have a second (and in person) interview on Monday for a company in St. Louis so it's looking promising that I'll be moving to St. Louis! And for my wife and I downtown St. Louis is the only place to live...so hopefully downtown St. Louis will be getting two new residents (I'm from Michigan and my wife from D.C. suburbs of VA).

I'm mostly wondering if the condo association has "settled" into place, if there's been any issues with foreclosures, if the units are mostly occupied, issues with quality of the units, etc.

I'll also take any other advice/suggestions for someone who is looking to move to St. Louis from another state.
