Denver has about the same population as St. Louis. Within about 150 sq. mi., they have 634,000 residents. Within 105 sq. mi. (City plus Mid-County), St. Louis has over 500,000. Add that extra 50 sq. mi. onto it from some of County municipalities bordering on that and it would be about 600,000+ within the same land area. Now, St. Louis overall has always had more crime than Denver. However, that doesn't mean there wasn't any violent crime there. There's violent crime everywhere in the world. It's just that in places like CO and Uruguay, crime has dropped dramatically as a result of this progressive approach to drug law reform. It's been said a million times, but the numbers don't lie: when people have the FREEDOM to use this substance, police have more time to focus on real crime. For every time a cop is busting someone for smoking a joint, someone else is probably getting raped or stabbed not too far away, especially here in St. Louis.
Do St. Louis City cops really bust people for smoking joints?Gateway City wrote:For every time a cop is busting someone for smoking a joint

I don't think they give much of a hoot in the City, but they could if they wanted. It's decriminalized to possess it here, but you can't just walk around the streets sparkin' up a fatty-bo-batty blunt with your doobie brothers. If you're gonna do it, you have to do it in private. Still, though, St. Louis and Columbia are the only parts of MO like this. We need people throughout the whole state to be safe, however, not just us. Besides, farmers in rural MO should be happy to have such a profitable new crop to grow once it is legal. And as far as smoking it goes, well, it's not like there's much to do out in the country anyway. Most of the country folks I've been good friends with smoked more than anybody I've known in St. Louis...Because in St. Louis, there's a lot to do. Out there, you might as well just get high.
I believe more people in missouri are for legalization than there are against it... its the sh*tty conservative politicians passing this dumb sh*t when we should at a minimum have medical marijuana not just cbd with low thc suffering patients need more than this poor joke they just passed no one should serve time for any cannabis reguardless this bill was made to waste time and incriminate people who are looking for a safer alternative.

I couldn't have said the last sentence any better. I am pro-cannabis legalization but I listen to people that oppose the idea, that's why fairness-sake, the best option is what JuanHamez said.JuanHamez wrote:For the record, I strongly don't support the use of weed (or any smoking in general) but I do think heavily enforcing its dis-use is a drain on resources that are better used for other things such as reducing violent crime and rebuilding our city.
Probably the best thing to do going forward is to legalize it in some form, regulate it, and use the tax benefits for better things like education.
