Yeah, I guess it's just a road since it's meant to get cars from one place to another quickly and doesn't have a lot of access point from cross streets and businesses. It's just a bad place for a road.

Good letter that focuses on the city's areas.quincunx wrote:Letter from Richard T. Bradley President of the City's Board of Public Service on the SCC

IMHO the only thing missing is a "P.S. Overall the county's SCC proposal is pretty friggin' stupid." But I'm glad I wasn't responsible for drafting this memo.
Editorial: Disconnect the South County Connector
http://www.stltoday.com/news/opinion/co ... 522a8.html
PD Editorial showing opposition to the project. A good quick read but not a very quoteable article; only quote that gets to the heart of the article is: "Mark us down as opposed, too. Even assuming there was $110 million sitting around, this project is far too expensive for the limited benefits it would offer."

There's a problem here in that it seems very few are saying "don't build it". Those opposing the project have questions and challenge some of the numbers. That's not solid opposition and "concerns" can be whittled away, addressed, overcome, etc. Let's hope that those stating simply that the project shouldn't be built for any price stand firm.
^I know that the City of Maplewood has requested, on several occasions (and with no response), that the County provide them with some of the initial poll data for the perfered option - build alt x,y,z,a,b,c or no build.
The DEIS stated that no build alternative recieved more than 10% of the votes for the most prefered option - the City hoped (hopes, even) to identify that the no build option was the most popular.

I don't know, I found this funny:tbspqr wrote:A good quick read but not a very quoteable article
They would have limited impact on the endangered Indiana bat, so they’ve got that going for them.

I find his excuse hilarious considering 95% of the federal funding the state gets goes to MoDOT and SCC is not a MoDOT roadroger wyoming II wrote:David Wrong admits temporary defeat.... hopefully he finds new employment, preferably out of the region:

"Until a new, long-term federal highway bill is in place that will clarify the extent of available federal monies in the future, we may not be able to formulate a concrete funding plan for the entire project

Just like Forest parkway in clayton, there should be 2 lane(both directions) elevated highway from hanley/64 to River des peres Blvd with exits at i-44 and Historic 66/Manchester road.
This bad idea was killed years ago, thankfully. Interesting (and ridiculous) that you chose the existing MetroLink corridor for this bad idea.
Also, already a thread on it:

No. 100% waste of money to save what a minute or 2?harstec888 wrote:Just like Forest parkway in clayton, there should be 2 lane(both directions) elevated highway from hanley/64 to River des peres Blvd with exits at i-44 and Historic 66/Manchester road.

probably chugging along 25 speed limit road (with lights and stop signs and yields) on McCausland ave/Ellendale ave/Wabash ave (which serves the same purpose) is the local solution for it. lol
. Yeah then it's a waste to construct elevated highway. probably saves 5-10 mins in peak hours and 2 mins in non peak hours. no use.
^ Exactly, no use. Glad to see you came around.
I travel between Clayton and 44 regularly, it never takes any longer than 7 to 10 minutes. Straight shot down Hanley or Big Bend/Shrewsbury. Just get on the existing MetroLink if driving an extra 2 minutes is such a hassle for you. There’s a reason residents in that area supported a mass transit extension and not an extension of 170.

I posted years ago saying I wish I-24 would be completed—connecting to St. Louis as originally planned and got a the drubbing of a lifetime. Still think it should be.
That said, I-64 not connecting with I-44/55 on the Missouri side has always been a head scratcher for me. I think I-755 was to solve that but good thing that didn’t happen.

I chose this as in Clayton, Elevated Forest Park parkway is built on either side of metro link. So I thought that model could be emulated until shrewsbury i-44 station and then merge into River Des peres. If it is done in Clayton, Why not follow same model? If time saved is 5 mins, probably no need for this. I’m not asking for 60mph road 6 lane with vast interchanges like i 170. Something like 40mph 4 lane uninterrupted elevated way with minor interchanges like in Clayton or no interchanges at all. Probably Clayton would have opposed elevated Forest parkway construction outright if it is planned in 2022. During the road infrastructure boom in 1960s, it got constructed. People would have thought it as good then. Alternative short path would be just constructing the elevated way from Hanley through oxford blvd (with ramps from big bend) following Clayton forest park model (building adjacent to metrolink) directly to river des Peres blvd which is far shorter.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Apr 17, 2022This bad idea was killed years ago, thankfully. ^ Just because people in the first half of the 20th century thought that road-building was good doesn't mean it actually was. Turns out, humans are pretty short-sighted.
American urban communities have been ravaged and decimated by highways. We have our own prime example downtown of an elevated highway that has rendered the area desolate.shadrach wrote: ↑Apr 17, 2022BTW—Diversity of thought is not tolerated around here. Just kidding, but not…

If your diverse thought arises out of unawareness of history and past experience it will receive push back. As it should.

Or maybe we should stop forsaking the efficient people moving infrastructure already in place that quickly moves everyone in the region downtown.

Airport access is very murky and chugging drive from affton,. (No metrolink too, if no elevated highway is constructed, atleast metrolink needs to be extended to south county i 270, even then , we have to change trains at forest park dabelliviere to airport). It takes 13 mins to drive from Galleria to Airport for 10 miles but 29 mins for affton which is 16 miles. 6 extra miles taking 16 more minutes where as 10 miles in 13 mins for Galleria.
I agree that urban communities are ravaged by highways, but WHERE is the Public Transportation? WHERE is the metrolink to west county & south county & st charles? I have to wait , change trains and buses , it takes hours to use the current public transportation than like 20 mins in driving.imran wrote: ↑Apr 18, 2022American urban communities have been ravaged and decimated by highways. I would be more than happy and (vote for them for life) if more metrolinks are constructed, amtraks to Louisville, Nashville, Indianapolis. But where are they? This country is designed for driving and highways are not being constructed and no public transportation progress. Result is chugging along 25 mph road with lights, stop signs, yields, pedestrian cross signs and single car long driving leading to more green house emissions.
