I believe the base of the tower is all parking garage w/ retail - similar to the base of Opus' Park East. I don't mind it that much. Very oimposing from street level which I like.

Okay that would freakin sweet if Clayton to the BJC complex to the main downtown was all filled in! Then St. Louis would look like Manhattan Island. Only better cuz we have the Cardinals.

Hey Xing, from what I can remember it looks very similar to the renderings unveiled at the CWE neighborhood meeting. It's definitely not as impressive as the Park East and far from cutting-edge, but I think our city is sorely lacking modern glass buildings, so it will definitely add a jolt of modernism in a city filled with 1920's-1960's high-rises.

What made me more excited about the project than the actual renderings is the commitment to create an urban intersection at Lindell & Euclid promised by OPUS. They really do get it. There were plenty of residents who accused OPUS of being greed-mongers who are just building high to make more $$$, but they really understand how successful cities function. Besides, why is it bad for a developer to make a lot of money on a project? Why else would they build in the first place?

Despite the opposition, it still seems that most residents are fully in favor of this tower.

I agree the base could be better but overall they've done a fine job. Many developers would have focused soley on the tower and ignored the importance of adding retail along Euclid. For this I'll be a bit forgiving about the main facade.

The circle drive in front that close to the intersection still bothers me though...

Perhaps it won't be long until the southwest corner of Lindell and Euclid is developed as well!

I think rendering looks good. I also think the base is fine...not great but good ...because it adds and extends euclid down to lindell. The lindell facade keeps the trend of the other tall buildigns there as well...set back from the street, just like the mf onticello, the president and others that line the north side of the street. None are on the sidewalk, none have retail, and this will probably be the most distinctive of the whole group IMO.

From the images posted here, I think this will be a great addition to the skyline. While some may argue that is more conservative or as amazing as others might like, I actualt think it is a nice attempt to build a modern tower that will play well off the great art deco tower of the area: the Chase. I was sadened to see that the other proposed towers had more in common with some of the 1960's towers than with the great towers of the past. This tower, with its aparently gleaming white facade and glass, will be a great modern take on some of these older stcutures.

Also, by moving farther from Lindell, the building will fit in well with the other towers and properties in the area, which seem to have some space between them and the street. Euclid will really soar with this tower.

I like it, a lot of glass. Throws a changeup into the west end.

Gasm, that is good to hear. I really hope the media captures the true feeling of CWE residents, rather than making it seem as if there is a large group of opposition.

Yes all great to hear. Best to hear that the city planning authorities are thinking ahead and looking to have the retail space exten all the way to the corner of the Lindell and Euclid lot.

I am just glad to see four new highrises within 4 blocks of each other.

Xing, may I ask a favor: If you have time at some point, do you think you might be able to work your magic and show us what the skyline of the CWE will look like in a couple of years with all these new buildings?

thanks!

Word on the street is that a group of CWE residents are petitioning to prevent the tower from being built. We need to organize and stop the NIBMYs!

Devevlope a counter petition to make it clear that the vision for the CWE is a place where towers can be built. One petittion looks pretty stupid if there is another with more signatures that says the oposite thing.

Patty Teper is at it again...

Patty Teper attended the January hearing on Alexander's request and was appalled by the city's position. She's a member of Citizens for Responsible Development, a newly formed group of Central West End residents. The city's decisions, she said, aren't just about ordinances.

"It doesn't matter if you're a big guy or a small guy. If you're tied to City Hall, you get favorable treatment. If you're not, you go through hoops," Teper said.

Teper's group opposes a proposed 28-story, high-rise condominium on the northeast corner of Lindell Boulevard and Euclid. The project, proposed by Opus NWR Development, goes against standards of the Central West End Historic District, which limits high-rise developments to 15 stories. But it has gotten an initial OK from the Cultural Resources board.

She wonders if the project is getting preferential treatment. Alderman Lyda Krewson, D-28th Ward, and Barb Geisman, the deputy mayor for development, have already secured a $7.5 million TIF for Opus without input from residents, she said.

I just don't understand why highrises would be this much of a bother.
