A beautiful old world Eastern European city that is tragically about to get absolutely decimated.

Not just Kyiv: Odessa, Lviv, and many other Ukrainian cities are absolutely gorgeous.

This is just spectacularly cool (and yes, these are real photos of an actual housing development in Kyiv called "Comfort Town")...

Looks like football practice is off the schedule for FC Dynamo Kyiv for some time. A football club with almost a 100 years of history is showing their camaraderie and love for their country on the battlefield. Good fortune to you, soldiers!

One has to be vigilant about the spread of misinformation in times like these.

The completely senseless horror...

I cannot begin to fathom the emotional anguish being felt by that city's citizens right now.

The layout and density are fine (even if they do mimic old soviet housing blocks), but the colors look ridiculous. Looks like a preschool mega sized. But, as we all know, older buildings in Kiev and other old cities look better than the new stuff. The old stuff has more heart and soul and, in some cases, is connected to a city's culture.

Also, it's a good thing to see the Ukrainians holding off Russian forces for as long as they have. Yes, missile strikes will be unfortunate common occurrences, but some, including myself, believed that Ukraine would've been taken over by the Russians by now on the simple belief that it seemed the Russians "out powered" the Ukrainians in soldiers, equipment and so on. I'm not saying they won't be taken over, but they're defending themselves well against a much larger force. And having current President Zelensky and former President Poroshenko sticking around to help fight are signs of good leaders who have a genuine love for their country and people. What a complete difference from Ashraf Ghani (former Afghan President) who up and left last year when the situation got rough.

Russian TV channels hacked to play Ukrainian songs (independent.co.uk)     Elon Musk activates Starlink satellites to give Ukraine data backup (politico.eu) Russia pulls out of European spaceport, abandoning a planned launch (arstechnica.com) Kremlin website down and Russian TV 'hacked by Anonymous' (dailyrecord.co.uk) Why Putin’s War with Ukraine Is a Miscalculation (cfr.org)

The mayor of Kyiv is also himself a badass - in his younger life, Vitali Klitschko was briefly the WBO World Heavyweight Champion from June 1999-April 2000. His younger brother Wladimir was the more famous boxer, winning a gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics and holding multiple world heavyweight championship belts over what was one of the greatest heavyweight boxing careers of all time.

Well this was pretty cool. SNL skipped the normal cold open tonight for a singing of a Ukrainian anthem...

The sense I get from social media and the news is that this has been much, much tougher for the Russians than they were expecting.

Should be an interesting few days for the Russian economy after sanctions from western countries. It's reasonable to expect that it will be in the tank for quite some time.

There are videos and images of Russians frantically lined up at ATMs from which they are only allowed to withdraw the equivalent of $20.

With Putin making nuclear threats, I think it's time the western world continued to clamp down on the Russian economy.

I've got to think there will be immense pressure on Putin after loads of Russians wake up to vanished life savings. We could be watching his downfall.

^It does seem to be a gamble that isn't paying off like Putin expected. Maybe it wasn't as "smart" to invade as our own former President said it was.

Discussion of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its historical roots. "What we see is the process of disintegration of one of the last world empires ... The Bolsheviks held [the Russian Empire] together, but it still fell apart in 1991, almost overnight. Everyone was surprised. It was a miracle that there was no major war or bloodshed. Now we realize that the war was just postponed"

This def. wouldnt have happened under Trump because he was doing what daddy Vladdy wanted, destroying NATO and pulling US Troops out of Europe.   Vlad thought Trump did enough damage to NATO and the EU that they wouldnt be united in their response.....boy was he wrong,  the work Bidens state dept has done to united europe and the world is remarkable

^Condi Rice said Biden has united NATO like she never thought would be possible following the Cold War.
She said this on FOX News, and my guess is she will never be asked to be back on that network.

Vlad has successfully made his nation the world's biggest pariah state.

FIFA has now kicked Russia out of the 2022 World Cup. When you've taken actions that are so egregious that even the world's most corrupt sports organization is offended, you know you've really stepped in a steaming pile.

I fully expect a formal denunciation of Russia's immoral aggression coming from the Church of Satan any minute now.
