Voltrons aside, really looking forward to seeing what is unveiled here.

I had forgotten about that. More on Voltron here:

there really should be a permanent Voltron statue somewhere in the city.

Don't give SLU any ideas or they'll scrap Iron Hill for a dedicated Voltron sculpture park.
Hate to say it Laife but you will be forever known on this website for giving SLU the idea for their next sculpture park.

^ Gundam might predate Transformers, actually. In any case I'll take that one too. It would look pretty badass hanging out in Cortex Commons or in Midtown somewhere.

^You're right, it does predate transformers. By about five years. And it was probably the direct inspiration for the transformers. Takara Tomy wanted to sell toys they didn't have to license from someone else so they came up with the first couple of what would become the Transformers. If there's any single franchise responsible for the proliferation of the giant robot trope it's Gundam. That giant robot they built in Japan? The real one that (sort of) actually moves? It's a Gundam suit. Gundam wasn't the first, but it's absolutely one of the most ubiquitous. (Not to knock the Transformers, which are probably the franchise most responsible for making them mainstream in the US. Which is also kind of a big deal. But I still prefer Voltron.)
Chris, any chance you could give us a hint on the timeline for an announcement? Weeks, months...longer? I know you can't divulge anything, but wondering if it's somewhat close.

The project will be mixed-use based on what I've been told previously from a number of people, but I'll withhold the exact usages. As for when we'll see an announcement, I'll stay quiet on that. Anyways, this map from March 2021 from WUMCRC hints at the project as the site is colored in orange and outlined in a dotted line.

Agreed. Like I've said a few times in various threads here, St. Louis could use a flagship, modern hotel more like a Mandarin Oriental or Waldorf Astoria.framer wrote:Seems like a great location to include some hotel rooms.

Hopefully they didn't see the april fools joke and get wise ideas. https://nextstl.com/2021/04/lindell-and ... announced/
I highly doubt we could support those, especially with the presence of Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton already in the region. Honestly, the fact that we can support both a Ritz Carlton and a Four Seasons is kind of underappreciated. Most of our peer cities have neither (Cleveland has a Ritz-Carlton). However, the locations of both hotels are unfortunate. A CWE or Midtown location for either would be much more beneficial for the city. Sonesta seems to be doing pretty well with The Chase, it continues to get great guest reviews and the renovations have been okay. On one hand I wish it had gotten a more prestigious brand, on the other hand it may have been too large and complicated of a property for that. I'm all for more hotels adjacent to Forest Park though, it has a great NYC Central Park / Plaza Hotel vibe to it.brianadler6545 wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021Agreed. I'm still betting that one being Steelcote Phase 4.Trololzilla wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021Urban Target with apartments on top?
Magic 8 Ball says it's likely, but not a done deal.brianadler6545 wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021Agreed. My two cents is St Louis gained a Lowe's which isn't your typical chain and more in line with a high end presence. Even they seem to have some issue getting to a standard that would be expected from my understanding of reviews. However, I think I share the same sentiment, some rooms would be a good fit but also need to up the standard for this site. Just don't think that it would be nor would Mandarin Oriental or Waldorf Astoria consider it.aprice wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021I highly doubt we could support those, especially with the presence of Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton already in the region. Marriott is a pretty big name in the St. Louis hotel world. This site would be perfect for a JW Marriott with a signature top floor restaurant. Just sayin'

Either a JW or W would be a nice grab...large gap in the midwest for both of those hotels.chriss752 wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021Marriott is a pretty big name in the St. Louis hotel world. This site would be perfect for a JW Marriott with a signature top floor restaurant. Just sayin'
I think a Grand Hyatt or a Conrad by Hilton would be fantastic for this location versus Mandarin Oriental or Waldorf Astoria. I mean, even Nashville doesn't have either of those latter flags presently or in the proposal pipeline.

That's true, but these brands do sometimes choose locations with close access to historical sites, national parks, landmarks, etc. We shouldn't sell ourselves short what with the Arch and all.reednavy wrote:I think a Grand Hyatt or a Conrad by Hilton would be fantastic for this location versus Mandarin Oriental or Waldorf Astoria.
