I think if enough people email the county council asking to not approve of the new plans, then this can be stopped.
Also, a QT recently opened 2.5 miles south on Meramec Bottom Road and another one is planned at the northeast corner of Lindbergh and Lemay Ferry (3 miles north).
I'm offended. As a person who grew up in south county, the Basement was a local landmark. Also, isn't there open land all around the area? Why demolish?
They could literally use the giant parking lot of the strip mall catty-cornered, destroy nothing, and just plop some pumps and a cinder block building there. I know the immense amount of parking needed for a real estate office, but maybe we can compromise.
How's the campaign for Grand and 44 going?
Who specifically should be contacted to send my grievances?

There's been some development on nearby vacant space, but there's still plenty that can hold a QuikTrip that doesn't result in the Kassebaum building being demolished.
I'm also interested to hear what's up with Grand and 44, but I suppose that is advancing.
I'd contact the members of the St. Louis County Council and ask them to to not approve of this QuikTrip plan. Each of the member's profiles has a button allowing you to email them. https://stlouiscountymo.gov/st-louis-co ... y-council/
This whole situation reminds me of the Richmond Heights (Big Bend and Clayton Road) Total Access Urgent Care, which demolished a historic building.
It seems like they could still build a QuikTrip here without demolishing any of the buildings. The land behind the row of buildings along Lemay Ferry Road is quite large. More than enough space for a normal sized QuikTrip. Looking at the inside of the Kassebaum building, there a neat tile floor in the corner space. The building also has a good amount of cast-iron on it and is quite decorative up close. Session Fixture looks to be moved out.
The neighboring white building, that looks like a multi-family building with two storefronts on the first floor, seems to have been empty for a while now. It’s showing it’s age but can be renovated if somebody wanted to. I don’t know about the old house down the way. Overall, if everything was demolished here, this would be a very big site for a QuikTrip. It just doesn’t make any good sense to me as to why they’d want one here especially with some out lots in front of the hotels on Butler Hill Road for sale.
I’ll post the photos I took of the property later. Tapatalk is not allowing me to upload photos right now.

You forgot to circle the 3-4 gas stations within the immediate proximity.
Also, I've given up with Marlene Davis. I've asked her why she thinks there should be another ***** QT there probably 3-4 times and just get a message that says 'call me' instead of giving written responses with paper trails.
As promised, here are the pictures from today. If you look closely at the picture of the interior space with the blue and white tile floor, you can see a tin ceiling behind a moved drop down ceiling piece. So many little architectural features in this building. Makes me even more sad at the thought of losing it.
The rest of the site. Construction trailers are there, so I guess they're betting on approval.
Not being a county resident, I've posted it to my Facebook page trying to encourage friends to take action. It does make me wonder what we can do to better incentivize adaptive reuse and to encourage folks like QT to get more creative with their site plans and street frontage; to move away from logo buildings upon the asphalt sea.
Thank you for contacting me regarding the proposed QuikTrip at the corner of Lemay Ferry and Butler Hill Roads. I completely understand and fully appreciate the historic significance of the Kassebaum Building that is on the site of the proposed development. On Monday, March 15 I, along with QuikTrip representatives, organized an in person town hall for officials from QuikTrip to present their plan for the site and for local residents to ask questions and provide feedback on that plan. Additionally, on Thursday, March 18 a similar virtual town hall via Zoom was held for those who could not attend the in person town hall, or did not feel comfortable with an in person meeting due to the COVID-19 virus. The PowerPoint provided at those meetings is attached for reference.
Be assured I will be considering all constituent feedback on this issue as QT’s proposal moves through the County’s zoning process. The town halls were a jump start so the community would have an opportunity to provide feedback. There are additional opportunities for constituent input on this project through the Planning and Zoning process, as well as with the full St. Louis County Council.
I would encourage you to sign up with the County for all Planning Commission meetings and agendas for the most current up-to-date information at the link below.
I got a similar response to Quincunx. Here are some screenshots from the PDF.

Add insult to injury with this...
They then explained that the Kassebaum Building would cost $3 Million to redevelop and included pictures of the inside of the building. Honestly, I think it could be done for far less because the renovation of 900 South 4th Street was a building in far worse shape and cost less than $1 Million to fix up. And that was with completely rebuilding the first floor, redoing the basement and other things.
I just think it’s an excuse for them to demolish the building and get their way.
i mean, regardless of what it costs, QT doesn't redevelop buildings. they just destroy them. so what the f*ck does it even matter what QT thinks the renovation would cost? they're goal is to tear it down. why listen to a damn thing they say?
