When you ride metro you can see the progress, and it looks like their moving faster than I expected.

Construction should be complete by January '09. The utility relocations are nearly finished so construction should quicken. Girders are currently being set.

^ Just in time for the eastern half of "the new I-64" to close down. Then everyone can use Jefferson again to get to 44.

^Depends on who you talk to...the eastern half may close before you think it will.

The bridge deck is now being poured and the last girders are going into place this weekend. It's still on target to open by Jan. 1. It appears I-64 has fallen back to its original schedule because of all the rain delaying the concrete pour for the road.

Don't like the truth? I refuse to provide insight anymore. I was even considering a picture thread for this job and other jobs in the future.

Does anyone know when the Jefferson Avenue Bridge is going to re-open? Is it going to be at the same time I-64 closes from I-170 to Kingshighway?

Last I heard, the City was hoping to open Jefferson Av. just before the Highway 40 shutdown. I'm not sure if they're still on schedule, though.

It will be open to all traffic by the end of the year, probably a week sooner. It may be open to one way traffic a couple weeks before the end of the year.

I just got an email from the DT Partnership claiming that the city hopes to have traffic moving by December 15th. After opening the bridge, the city will close some lanes during non peak hours to work on the bridge. Guess we'll see.

Jefferson bridge reopens by Dec. 15

By Elisa Crouch

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The City of St. Louis and its contractor have sped up work on the Jefferson Avenue bridge so at least part of it will be open when Highway 40 closes in St. Louis. Two northbound lanes will reopen by Dec. 15, according to Todd Waelterman, city streets director. The bridge, between Chouteau Avenue and Highway 40 (Interstate 64), closed for demolition and reconstruction in Oct. 2007. The city aimed to reopen it by Dec. 31, but pushed to open part of it sooner so Jefferson could be used as a north-south route around 40 work. Construction will continue in southbound lanes for at least several more weeks.

WOO HOO!!! I really can't wait for southbound. If I have to sit at the light at Truman and Chouteau or Lafayette one more time at 3 AM with not a single car coming I will go crazy.

Please call the CSB and complain. I often end up taking 14th that way to avoid the lights and only have to deal with the silly traffic circle.

^ Yeah, and I would have thought that since they actually did sync the lights between Olive and Market that they would have taken it all the way to 55, but that would have been asking too much I guess. Once I sat at Lafayette through 3 light cycles for maybe 2 cars on Lafayette until southbound Truman got a green.

drove by the jeff ave/choteau intersection and saw the new bridge. thank goodness they didn't setup a trillion light fixtures like on kingshighway. i do like the lattern-looking lights they have on the new bridge though.

It was open both ways when I took it to the Tap Room Saturday...The new bridge is a vast improvement over the old one.

Been using this back and forth to BJC. Great stuff. I'm very happy that it's open both directions. I also really like the lights they've put up on the bridge.

My only complaint - the spotlights used at UPS are aimed too far at the people coming onto the Bridge from 64 headed east. I was blinded driving that way yesterday. Very annoying.
