i actually work for starwood and sheraton is a work in progress for us. the brand is highly regarded internationally but has some catching up to do in the US. clayton is about to undergo a huge renovation, so that product should be much better in the coming year or so. the sheraton downtown has had a rough time with staffing but is a pretty remarkable renovation of an old warehouse. (just like the westin)

As far as aloft for st louis, there are not currently any deals in the works....however, were a pretty dynamic company and that could change soon. glad to hear your opinion of westin is a good one!

I would think a boutique hotel on Washington Avenue, somewhere around Tucker, would be very successful. I'm surprised there haven't been more proposals. Washington Avenue is very close to the density necessary to be a destination in and of itself and a W in one of the historic buildings, or even in the old Day's Inn, would seem to be a perfect fit.

As a frequent traveller, being as unbiased as I can, I would find a Washington Avenue Loft District location much more attractive than the OPO District, and certainly more attractive than the old WS. Maybe the Renaissance's financial troubles are scaring people off, or maybe loft development has had the better return/least risk until now?

There's really been some visible changes here in the last couple of days, as all the windows have been replaced. I don't know what things are like on the inside, but at least there are a large number of workers there now, and they seem to be making good progress.

Last Friday's Business Journal stated the hotel would open in June of this year.

The hotel has been painted white, and looks pretty good.

They're doing major work on the lobby, and some demolition has occurred between the building and the big portico.

On a side note, I just got back from Miami, and had the opportunity to see several hotels that seem like what this place should aspire to, particularly the Palms and the Standard. Now, hotel Indigo may not have a beach, but if it can cultivate the same hip, luxurious, relaxing atmosphere, I'll be impressed.

"Dance Hall"?
When is the first war bond drive dance marathon? Will they be having a dance to welcome our boys in uniform back from the Orient?

I thought Indigo was a more upscale brand on the outside than this - kinda looks like a step down? Thought they'd be more interested in the Parkway Hotel than this one. Maybe the interior will be different. This looks more like a Holiday Inn type property (going along the Intercontinental Line)

It looks like construction is done although the restaurant space still has a for lease sign on it. I also read where they held a "grand opening" party about a month ago. Any news on when they will start accepting guests?

The decision to use a traditional (residential) lamp post at each end of the fence along the sidewalk cracks me up. Who's design idea was that? Overall, when they finally open (their website indicates they're taking reservations for check-in dates beginning 07/02/09), it will be good for the 'hood.

We can complain about the particulars, but if it is a successful hotel then it's a real victory for the CWE. I'll take a hotel with some missed design opportunities that is full and add vitality to the neighborhood over a textbook execution that fail to do what a hotel is supposed to do.

That thing looks incredibly stupid. They could not have come up with a more boring design, even if they put vinyl siding on the East, West, and South walls.

I'm sure the hotel will do well. There is a serious shortage of hotel rooms in that area.
