These guys are gonna have a lot of unhappy customers unless they let people know they have to feed the central machine. If there is any signage, it's not very prominent.
What time was it at? When I went to Hamburger Mary's a couple weeks ago I couldn't figure out if the central meter needed to be fed at all times, or before 7:00 pm. I didn't pay, but didn't get a ticket either.

We got there just before 7:00. Left around 9:00. I don't mind paying for metered parking, I just think they need better signage to let people know how the system works.

This is really great news for me! I love burgers and I would usually disembark in a hunt for a great burger patty right about any area I could pay a visit to.

Hamburgers are sort of my comfort food that I think that I could just anytime anywhere at whatever frequency they might come to me! You could tell that I am such a fan boy and sucker for burgers with that.

The place is bringing in a crowd, burgers start @ 1.95 each for the sliders, 8.50 for the regular and 10.00 or more for the big boys or specialty burgers, the tater tots or sweet potato fries are very good as well.

Big Patio on the side of the building will open this spring and they have another upstairs party room with a rooftop patio that can be leased for special occasions.

The interior reminds me of the FOX Theatre on steroids.

Eh. Always easier to siphon money off a successful business than a floundering one. They'll probably just make him pay back his partner and sell his share. All will be well.

I don't think it'll hurt business at all. I was in there last weekend and it was packed (and there was another story about the same scandal that broke a couple of weeks ago). Most people in the LGBT community are aware of Mark Erney's business practices and know that he's no longer involved with the restaurant. Erney's 32 in the Grove is the one that's really suffering.

Slightly off topic but on the topic of burgers, any recs for where in STL to get a great Juicy Lucy?

^Can't think of a single spot outside the Twin Cities with those. For a Juicy Lucy, head to St. Louis County, Minnesota.

Fozzie's on Big Bend has it on their menu. Haven't tried it though.

^ i was waiting for this. can't say i'm surprised. it was a horrible location (including, in my opinion, the interior) and it seems there were some major ownership/management issues (that little embezzlement scandal, for instance). i ate there once and was not impressed, but i'm also not much of a drag-show/camp fan.

I'm really surprised by this. The location was weird, but every time I went it was always packed and I never had a bad experience there. Their burgers were awesome. Sad to see it go.

The food was the main issue when I went. Hard to make a bad hamburger, but theirs was less than impressive.

Yes thats KC .. Ive never ventured to Hamburger Mary's all i heard was vice versa about it but i didn't really have a reasoning for going in & checking it out. I would have thought The Grove Neighborhood would be the perfect area or Grand & Arsenal given those are the 2 main big area's in Saint.Louis where our burgeoning LGBT scene is thriving ..

Maybe I'm misunderstanding by "horrible/weird location" (geographical or the building interior?) but Pappy's across the street is kicking ass and taking names along this wasteland stretch of Olive.

But I do agree this should have been in The Grove or South Grand.

Yeah. I though it was a good location. Places are struggling in Midtown Alley though. Urban Tan will be closing later this month. Need better connections from SLU. Too many lots seperate this area.

What I meant by "weird" was that it was weird place for an LGBT establishment. I think it would have done a lot better in the Grove. I guess we can confirm that Midtown is not great at sustaining LGBT places, given that Mary's and WeHo have now closed within months of each other.

From what i read in the post they may be looking to reestablish themselves elsewhere in the city & if they do it has to be The Grove since that area is seeing such a surge in redevelopments. They were forced to close cause the foreclosed on the building & the bank is forcing them out.
Saint.Louis is #1 when it comes to BBQ consumption so theres a reasoning Pappy's is thriving :D

Post states the building was lost due to foreclosure and the bank is kicking them out.

I just meant the location is geographically isolated, and I thought the interior was quite drab. Pappy's has a much larger customer base.

The Grove definitely seems like a logical choice for a relocation. Their burger / cabaret combo would transition well into the bar / music scene.

Apparently Hamburger Mary's is reopening downtown somewhere soon. Anyone know where by chance?
