I'm doing my best. Hey, there was this blog once that scooped all the MSM. First all the MSM ended up using it as a source. And then it turned out that lots of important people read said blog and its discussion forums -- they said things about how bad they felt when they read critical comments about themselves and their plans. So there's always that approach.
And there's the approach of finding kindred spirits in the MSM to start asking pointed questions. I'm working on that, too.
I sure hope an editor or high ranking official at the P-D has an in on this whole process somewhere and will put the pressure on when its appropriate...because I agree that the Arch redevelopment is obvioulsy a big deal.
Bonwich, I admire your bulldog attitude! Surely ceaseless questioning of our public officials is a good way to maintain accountability for public monies...
Your tone on here seems awfully disenfranchised tho...Are we (the public) really that far on the outside? Are the MVVA offices stonewalling you?
I will be the first to admit the mistakes of our forefathers and their treatment of minorities...We continue to pay dearly for these past decisions by election winners and those they appoint...But to use pejorative phrases such as "Great White Fathers" regarding the current administration is a bit baffling...
Tho I do appreciate and understand your sarcasm and disgust...And its obvious that white men are the ones who ran St. Louis and still hold the vast majority of influence...
I'm just confused as to how name-calling (are the African American members of City Hall's power structure not really black?) furthers either public dialog or dialog with those who hold answers...
^Do they still have monthly meetings? I'm not a student of St. Louis politics or history. What I have read is that Civic Progress does not wield the power it used to?
The Gateway Arch is a National Monument, and though it is in our front yard, I would expect input from many places, federal, state and local, in addition to the design firm. Do we really know who drives the CAR 2015 Foundation? Just seems like the inner-workigns of the organization might be alikened to the driving the Titanic up from the Gulf and mooring in front of the Arch.
And with multiple trillion dollars in public debt not only behind behind us, but in front of us as well, I'm betting the folks with hands on the actual wheel of this Titanic want to make sure they control as much of the process as possible. Mr. Boehner will haev some mighty big scissors at his disposal.
I lived down in the ATL leading up to and through the 96 Olympics and the local papers when nuts trying to get anything out of Billy Paine and ACOG. It ended up being a war ending with the Olympic organizers ignoring the requests for more transparancy. Of course the Olympics were for the most part privately funded, and this is not hte case here.
My view is that the tea party guy from Fenton and the urban activist from the Ville and the soccer mom from Ballwin will want to know what is going on down at the Arch but will not be ready to march on City Hall if regular updates are not forthcoming. Most folks in general are pretty satisfied with our nation's national parks and are relatively uninterested in how they come about.
Looks like the whole gangs coming...It's likely they will address each individual citizen of the metro area personally...and then will intelligently discuss the pros and cons of each citizen's idea with him or her...and then will lead an entire community discussion on each citizens point...and then will, through the power of honesty and patience, delivery every individual citizen to a consenus on how to proceed...
Or, they may just tell us how this is all gonna go down based on a pretty fair process to this point...
