Jack - I assume that you've seen this: http://www.vincentlaforet.com/

I don't know much about filming a movie, but if you can get results like this with a camera that costs less than $3,000 that's something to be excited about. Not to mention that you can use your Canon lenses (saving big $) AND the new Canon firmware adds more manual controls when shooting video . . . what do you think?

Nah. You've got to go 4K to get cinema quality. 2K cameras like what you linked to aren't quite good enough. If you saw "Collateral" or "Miami Vice" they were shot with 2K cameras. IMHO those films look too much like video.

If anything, these are the wave of the future.

There's talk of us using the Red on my next film. I'm an "old film guy" so I'd prefer 35mm, however, my DP recently showed me something he shot in the Red and it looked great.

Anyways, gotta run. I'm the UMSL team leader for this weekends 48 Hour Film Project and I have things to do before the Kickoff Event.

Red is awesome!

About two years ago Peter Jackson shot a 30 minute test film with the prototype. It was about WW1 -- "Crossing the Line" --lost the link, most were dead even a year ago, but the 'film' quality is awesome.

"Ghost Image" will be released on DVD on 8/25/09. Here's a site with the cover art:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ghost-image.html

Though it says on the site there will be no special features, that is not accurate. We've produced the following special features:

1) Commentary track with Director Jack Snyder (me!), Producer Srikant Chellappa, and Director of Photography Chris Benson.

2) Twenty minutes of deleted and extended scenes.

3) Five minutes of outtakes.

4) A twenty-six minute "Making of" featurette.

5) Music video of end credits song titled "Shattered".

Hopefully they will all make it onto the DVD.

"Ghost Image" has been out on DVD since 8/25/09. It's in every Blockbuster Video in the country as well as Family Video/Movie Gallery, at Moviecube (the Red Box competitor located at Schnucks stores) and at Netflix. It is at select Hollywood Videos and can be purchased online pretty much everywhere such as Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, Target, etc.

Check it out!

Thanks!

Jack
