Is the fake brick crap going up? Is the building going to be re-clad?
The post article is talking about the middle building of the 3 building complex. It is Gentry's Landing, on the northern end, which is considering building a new tower. However, as the article points out, all parties are waiting trying to buy the land under the building and little will happen untill that is resolved. In a related note, the Business Journal has an article commenting that Gentry's Landing has reached a deal for the land under their building, so perhaps we will hear more about a new tower going forward.

Has anyone heard anything more about the rumored conversion of Gentry's Landing to condos?

Gentry's Landing deal might get off the ground

The Gentry's Landing complex in downtown St. Louis is listed as under contract less than five months after two Florida brothers were nudged to sell the land it sits on under the threat of eminent domain.
A commercial real estate brokerage, Hendricks & Partners, lists the properties on its website with the "escrow" tag, and an agent confirmed that it was under contract when asked about it. He refused to say who the prospective buyer was.

picture of what?
Good to hear the land is in hand so they can get this started.

Grover, if you go back to the beginning of this thread, 3 or 4 posts down, there are some good pictures of the buildings. And 3 or 4 pages down is a rendering of a proposal to alter one of the buildings. This thread is really getting long, so those pics are easily missed now.
that new "addition" is the biggest POS I've seen yet proposed downtown. WOW!
my problem is that it does NOT match/ work well with the Mansion House building. And what is up with adding framing or whatever to the building. It looks like sh*t. This is today's version of a 1960's skin addition/ re-clad.

I don't really get the negativity. These buildings are in sore need of renovation. As some of the most prominent buildings on the riverfront, updating them would have a significant impact.

I don;t understand the negativity either. I can see people complaining about recklading the existing buildings in brick - but complaining about adding a new tower? I actually think it looks quite nice (even if it is a stylistic throwback) but aside from that - come on people - how long has it been since ANYONE has wanted to build a tower in our DT? I think it looks a hell of a lot better than our current - vacant lot.

Hmm. The Roberts Bros, the guy behind the Bottle District, the Cardinals and Cordish, the casino, the Skyhouse people. . . . .
I have a major problem with new buildings being built to look like they are 100 years old. We have real historic buildings, we don't need fake ones. It's time for something contemporary and sleek-- St. Louis is desperately lacking in modern skyscraper design.

of the buildings you mention - ONE - is under construction. Cone on - I know about all of those projects. Yes many of them will likely be built but the Bottle District? The Roberts' Mayfair Tower? .... I'll believe those when they break ground.

God, that's so sadly true.

you know - I don;t disagree with you. I just think the bigger issue is that we're lacking in sky scrappers period. I'm not ashamed to say that if that building ... brick clad throwback that it is - got the green light I would be ecstatic. Do I think its an architectural gem? no. But I'm more concerned about restoring our street grid and density.
Well, I gotta say...I'd rather see a lot sit empty rather than to build "just anything". Need we really sacrifice quality for the sake of building something...anything...so long as something gets built? I certainly hope not. Who would mount a plastic bead with real gems in a necklace???
Downtown has many turn of the century gems. We don't need faux structures, and recladding of existing structures, yet. Fake structures like this are best left to places like Disneyland, IMO (and I think even Disneyland does a much better job of architectural mimicry). I'd rather we build new gems in contemporary architecture.
I stand with both of JCity's comments...and especially the point about it not even matching the modernist style of the original Mansion House complex...what kind of nonsense is that for developers and architects to present us with??

Thanks marmar, I agree with you as well. I'm ALL for building new structures in St. Lous, but I'm not going to settle for crap that belongs in a fourth tier city. The Mansion House buildings themselves ARE of the modern, international style that someone mentioned st louis lacked. They look like something out of New York or Chicago if you ask me.
THIS is what I think that new tower addition looks like, the St. Charles Hotel/Convention Center. It's like a new Walgreens building turned into a highrise.
