Could you imagine skipping out on paying for your tags on a car you recently purchased, having it get absolutely wrecked by the record floods, and then you don't get a cent while still having an obligation to the bank for several more years? It would block some people's ability to get another car.

Yeah especially since gov't coerced the unaffordable car ownership and then doesn't come through in your time of need.

Per the article, in addition to needing the registration to be up to date, the car owner also needs to provide proof their vehicle meets Missouri's minimum requirements for insurance.

Additionally, FEMA will only issue reimbursement if the owner has no other operable vehicle.

Looks like U City will apply for federal funds to buy out and demolish nearly 300 homes around the RDP. The land would be turned into parks and forests.

About time.

It'd be kind of nice if they could make a destination park with the freed up space like Brentwood is.

Between the flooding and eminent domain, U City has lost hundreds of residents lately. I think the peak was around 40,000 at one point. It's a far cry from that today.

Losing so many residents is a real blow to University City, but unfortunately hard to see what the alternative for them is with the buyouts from the flooding. Unfortunate that a wave won't come and sweep away the new Costco.

U City's peak was over 51k in 1960. 35k as of the 2020 census.

I wish they'd see the connection between their parking mandates and the flooding.

The portion of the centennial greenway that would connect the Acker Walkway to the chunk that terminates at Olive & 170 is already planned to run through most of that flood zone where the buyout is proposed. I hope u city can get the funds for the buyout and that this makes it easier to get that portion built.

That will be nice to have back. Do you know if that will be back to regular frequency or still on a reduced schedule?

I sent a query through their customer service web form. I assume this means normal frequency but they didn't say that, here is what they wrote:

"At this time, we expect to have the Blue Line go through to Fairview Heights effective Nov 28, 2022."

Official, Blue Line will be in full service by Nov. 28th.
Blue Line MetroLink service will return to its normal route on Monday, November 28, with Blue Line trains serving all stations between the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Fairview Heights MetroLink Stations. Red Line and Blue Line MetroLink service will operate on a 20-minute schedule, 7 days a week.

Due to significant damage to the light rail system from historic flash flooding in July, MetroLink has been operating modified service, which includes Blue Line trains only operating to the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station. With Blue Line service restored to the Fairview Heights Station, Blue Line riders will no longer need to transfer trains at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station to continue their trip.

Metro Transit teams continue to make repairs to flood damaged areas of the MetroLink system. Due to supply chain issues and long production times for replacement parts, it may be several months before repairs are fully completed and MetroLink can resume its pre-flood schedules and service.

Does that also mean it won’t come to a grinding halt every 50 yards? And go faster than walking pace? And return to 15 min. intervals rather than 20 min.

Being hyperbolic but the flooding has made the Blue Line almost unrideable. And to be honest, the flood was devastating so I give them that. Yet, part of me has a feeling if this happened in, let’s say, Germany, it would have been fully restored in a fraction of the time. Priorities.

^ If you know someone in Germany that can counter these very real issues…

…then call Metro and tell them.

They’ve been very transparent about the repair process and that speed restrictions would remain in effect on damaged sections until the system is fully restored.

Also, Germany is definitely not the paragon of rail service that it once was anymore.

Any idea when metrolink is back to pre-flood operations? Can’t find anything on their site/google. The single-track plus speed restrictions between Clayton and DeBaliviere is beyond frustrating.

Additionally I really wish they'd release a timeline for when the reduced night and weekend service (stopping the blue line at Forest Park) will end instead of just extending it week by week.
