Sounds like they're aiming for public neighborhood meetings on this in about a month.

Jeff Tegethoff says that they want to begin in late August/Early September is things go right. I assume that will happen because I don't expect neighbors to get bent out of shape over the loss of a Metro parking lot and strip mall.
I was just wondering about an update on this. Good to see it still moving along.
Oh neighbors always get bent out of shape regarding parking and traffic!
I can't imagine there would be a lot to complain about a project that will maintain public parking for businesses and Metro riders. Especially since this project has a good chance of also disrupting one of the city's most well known open air drug markets.
I think it'll get support, especially given how much of a negative current conditions are, but there will be some complaining about traffic and parking. Getting rid of the Metro parking would help attract fewer cars, but it seems Metro is insisting they provide it.

In addition to a grocery store, what else can we anticipate being added for retail in this project? I’m speaking generically. A barbershop? Restaurants? A clothing store?

I wonder if Joe Edwards would ever has plans to extend his "Loop Brand" further east down Delmar and down to DeBaliviere. I could see him starting another concept like Peacock Diner in the new development. Upon completion this area will likely be crawling with tourists.
Personally I hope he doesn't. I kind of like the idea of the Loop (trolley route) containing three distinct districts. The Joe Edwards style West Loop that everybody thinks of until the tracks. Then the grungy East Loop filled with diverse businesses and hopefully some TOD. The Debaliviere strip is largely a blank slate with no real identity yet. This development is a great start and sets a great precedent for what DeBaliviere will look like in the future.

Neighborhood residents will get a look at the project later this month. Media won’t be permitted.

AFIAK, Joe owns two properties east of the Metrolink tracks on the 5900 block of Delmar
Would like to see the NW corner of Goodfellow and Delmar redevedloped with a ahrdware store and apts above.
Would like to see the building (Cable car plant?) at the SW corner of Delmar and DeB turned into a mircobrewery.
The property at the NE corner of DeBaliviere and Pershing is for sale. Would be great to see that redeveloped and the curb cut removed.

Public meeting July 9. I'll be out of town

The neighborhood email says that neighborhood committees are largely positive about the project so that’s good news.quincunx wrote:Public meeting July 9. I'll be out of town

No press? Isn't that unconstitutional?quincunx wrote: Public meeting July 9. I'll be out of town

Yeah, pretty sure that's not a stipulation they can make unless both of those neighborhood associations are members-only and they mean that instead of "residents". It's also being held in the visitor's center in a public park.goat314 wrote:No press? Isn't that unconstitutional?quincunx wrote: Public meeting July 9. I'll be out of town

I am sure bloggers and media members can go if they don’t post stuff all around on their platforms. Some things may not be ready for the media to share around at this point. But you never know.
It will be an incredibly different DeBaliviere. I hope some of the businesses in the strip mall are encouraged to and able to afford to be in the new development.
The property at the NE corner of the DeB and Pershing is for sale. Here's hoping it gets a human-oriented building too.

Looks like it's grown in size since the first conceptual renderings we saw.
No, it isn't unconstitutional. Bad form? Maybe, but I'm sure there will be public meetings later.goat314 wrote:No press? Isn't that unconstitutional?quincunx wrote: Public meeting July 9. I'll be out of town

This is being hosted by the neighborhood associations and Park Central, and one of them would have put that attachment / flyer together. They are well within their rights to exclude everyone but residents and invited guests, although they should have just said "Residents Only".

I was thinking the same thing - that definitely looks larger (those building's in the background are connected) and then I think that cut off might mean that building grows in height?framer wrote: Looks like it's grown in size since the first conceptual renderings we saw.

This looks like it could be twice the project that renderings teased when it was first announced. The new building looks much more impressive. Will be interesting to see the other buildings included in the project.pattimagee wrote:I was thinking the same thing - that definitely looks larger (those building's in the background are connected) and then I think that cut off might mean that building grows in height?framer wrote: Looks like it's grown in size since the first conceptual renderings we saw.
Looking forward to July 9.

The building on the Metrolink parking lot has gotten taller while the one on the kiss 'n ride has shrunk.

Do you know how many stories the kiss’n ride building will be? Is the project just two buildings then and not 3?
