Absolutely! We were towards the back! I haven't asked Paul yet if he will be open for the Canadian race since it would be in the afternoon -- hopefully he will! We go to the American F1 race every year, though, so we will be seeing that one in person! (Yipeee!). Hopefully everyone there can get to know each other next time! We are just so excited to know other F1 folks!

We should meet up sometime! DeBaliviere and I finally had the chance to meet in person, so it would be great to meet other F1 fans from the forum as well.

I don't know if Paul will be open for the afternoon races (Canadian Grand Prix and the USGP). I'll be out of town both of those weekends, but I'll definitely be back at Espresso Mod when F1 returns to Europe in early July. (I don't have my schedule handy as I write this, but I think the French Grand Prix is July 1.)

Espresso Mod is a great little place, and it's wonderful to finally have a place to watch F1 races!

Once again this Sunday Espresso Mod will be open for F1 fans who would like to watch the race.

Also starting next week Espresso Mod will debut a monthly concert series at the 2 Cent Plain.

Here's the flyer....

I'm getting a kick out of pestering the F1 fan in our office with stories about F1 boss Max Mosley's bedroom habits.

He's set up Outlook to reject all messages concerning F1 that come from the internal mail server.

I think he's gone to Expresso Mod to watch a few races and said it's a good time.

It is a good time. And I'm talking about watching F1 at Espresso Mod not hiring 5 prostitutes and reenacting Nazi war crimes.

ThreeOneFour and I went down there for a race last year - it was fun to watch with other F1 fans.

^ I didn't make it, and I was going to post about it here last week to see if you, BL211, or any other forum F1 fans might show up Sunday morning for the Grand Prix of Bahrain, but I was swamped with work and computer issues and I never got around to it!

I would imagine they'll be open again for Barcelona on 4/27, so I will try to make it then! 8)

Show Espresso Mod a little love when you're thinking about where to go to lunch next. It's been a little slow there lately and I think they could use the business. Such a great little place.

If they didn't close so early, I'd go there often. They're useless by closing at 3:30ish.

We need late-night coffee downtown.

Same here. I don't work downtown, so I get few opportunities to go there.

As I pointed out in much older posts earlier in this thread, the owner used to open the doors early on Sunday mornings for Formula One races. I believe he did that once or twice earlier this year, and both times I was out of town.

I followed some of that group out to Lamborghini St. Louis in Chesterfield to watch a race recently, and anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but a reliable source told me Espresso Mod's owner now has a job at a raceway (can't remember for sure, but I think it was Infineon Raceway) in northern California.

So, I wonder what that means for the future of the place. I'd like to get there soon, as I have always liked it.

I saw the British guy there last week, who I always assumed was the owner.

Yes, that's him. His name escapes me as I write this. I think I'll either double-check with my source or try to find the opportunity to stop by for some coffee and a breakfast sandwich some time soon. And now that I'm finally on FB, I'll check their page for any updates as well. 8)

His name is Paul Charsley and he is a great guy. He used to be in there most days but he got a job instructing and racing performance cars.

They have a great sandwich in there called a naanini. It's like a panini but it's on Naan bread. Also, they used to host F1 races in the morning and had awesome blueberry french toast, breakfast sandwiches and burritos.

F*ck.

Culinaria (and the Kaldis inside of it) is almost completely to blame. The Great Recession couldn't help either.

This will be missed, the food and coffee were good, but the atmosphere (music and mod trappings) were pretty unique. That and that F-1 telecasts were awesome.

Spoke briefly to Paul, the one two punch of Schnuck’s and layoffs at AT&T and May’s closure were too much for a little independent.

I would like to think that sometime in the future they might pop-up again somewhere, but I am sure they are emotionally drained.

When the Great Recession is over. Oh, wait: the government says the recession has ended. Let's party![/sarcasm]

I was going to try to get to them this week on my great no-chain lunch adventure but the monsoon season has kept me stuck to inside eating leftovers and stuff from home.

Dweebe either knowingly or unknowingly brings up another point. The truly ridiculous amount of rain can't be helping businesses like this right now.

There are at least two or three more closings that are imminent. I hope I am wrong, but we are coming off the busiest time of the year for restaurants and heading into the slowest. If they are struggling now, they will not make it through the winter. We all need to make a conscious effort to not use Culinaria as a fast food place. Use Culinaria as a grocery and if you want to pick up prepared foods, get your asses into the small restaurants in the area. These guys are not just crying wolf.
