Stenger absolutely needs to be on a flight out to Musk's office and get the midwest plant built in STL. And he should've been there yesterday

Also, reporter is a STL native  8)

“Demand is not our issue, production is our issue,” Musk said. “People don’t quite appreciate how hard it is to manufacture something -- it is really hard.”

I herd they were bought by a Chinese company last spring or early summer and plans are on hold or maybe even killed.

A Hazelwood Tesla production facility would be a huge win for our area. C'mon, Stenger, go pay Mr. Musk a visit!

How about where the GM plant was in the city? Or north or south riverfront. Or ESTL

I'd be perfectly okay with that as well. Does anyone know the status of the site at Union Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue where the GM light truck and Corvette plants used to be? I wonder how much, if any, environmental cleanup work remains? There's still a decent light industrial presence in that general area, so it might be a great site for Tesla, too, in my opinion.

^ I'm not sure about that site but I believe the Economic Development partnership has identified the cleared parcel at Goodfellow & 70 as a priority development.... not sure how many acres it is. Green Street may also be a possibility for a plant. I don't think there really aren't a whole lot of larger sites easily available in the city.

Which reminds me, I saw in the P-D that Kraftig contines its impressive growth and Busch continues to scout 30-40 acres in the region for a production plant like Schlafly.... iirc, I think he said they need to get up to about 50,000 barrels and are at about 10-12,000 presently. Maybe in a few years.

FYI: Tesla charger spotted in Downtown St. Louis in front of the Magnolia Hotel:

Note the non-Tesla auto parked in front - tsk-tsk!

Apparently the Magnolia has a model S that is available to guests to use around downtown.

There's a charging station at the Four Seasons too. Only two charging stations in all of STL are downtown.

Pretty sure Tesla's require a special adapter so they can't use other power stations around town

There are public charging stations at
-7th and Lucas behind the Embassy Suites.
-the Moonrise in the Delmar Loop
-Missouri Botanical garden (but they're almost always occupied by employee EV cars)
-Metro Lighting in Brentwood
There's also a private charge station under Highway 40 across from Busch Stadium and a bunch over at the Ameren HQ. We'll see if IKEA installs any at the Midtown store.

Incorrect.

You're thinking about their SuperCharger that charges one of their cars in 30 minutes. Most Tesla's can use those, but not Chevy Volts or Nissan Leafs. (I believe the BMW i3's can.)

There's not one here in St. Louis, but Tesla claims one is coming to St. Louis.

Nissan dealerships also have them, but most seem to be unfriendly: even to Leaf owners. West County Nissan is notorious for being real jerks.

I hear the Tesla service center in U City is moving west. They're in the path of the big TIF project at Olive/I-170.

Looks like Nashville has the upper hand, but STL is looking to
make a bid for the Central US Tesla plant.

States with right-to-work laws that prohibit unions from requiring prospective hires to join their membership are likely to be contenders for Tesla’s facility, said John Boyd, principal of a manufacturing site-selection firm based in Princeton, New Jersey.

“I’d put Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas and Michigan on the list,” Boyd said. “This will be a trophy project for the automotive sector.”

Unfortunate to hear that right-to-work is a deterrent. God forbid we give a collective voice to workers about their compensation and working conditions.

Tesla is definitely all in on non union workforce.

The one thing that might change Musk mind is like every good capitalist he will go with the highest bidder when it comes to subsidies.   Will be interesting to see if Missouri goes down that road even remotely like they did for Boeing.
