Dunkin Donuts sweetens to area under new plan
Dunkin' Donuts plans to open its first three stores in the St. Louis area by early 2010, and one by the end of spring. Two stores would be at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, one in Kirkwood and another in Rock Hill.

^ Nice... I'm friends of the family. Rock Hill will be the next location to open up later this year. What are other good potential areas? I'll ask them to consider downtown, of course. A friend mentioned the Wehbe's Safari location as a possibility. Other thoughts?

What is the big deal? Wasn't Dunkin' Donuts here for many years? Why are people getting so excited about a humdrum national chain coming to town?

I can understand if they were bringing something new to the area. But while St. Louis lacks many things, excellent donuts is not one of them. Are we supposed to cheer if Olive Garden decides to open a franchise on the Hill, too?

Personally, I'm baffled by the enthusiasm (on this forum and elsewhere) for Dunkin' Donuts returning to St. Louis. The best case scenario is that the whole thing falls apart and our robust local donut scene remains undisturbed. At the very least, they won't be getting a dime of my donut money (an expenditure that remains more significant than I would like, alas).

I don't eat donuts. I hear they have great coffee and good breakfast items besides donuts.

For most DD fans its about the coffee. Supposedly their coffee is top notch for a chain. I've heard of people going there every weekday for coffee and never touching a donut for months at a time.

Just go to Chicago were there's a ton of Dunkin Donuts. On a cold morning there will be 10 people in line in front of you getting coffee and you'll see maybe 1 or 2 walk away with a donut of other breakfast item.

Same way with Tim Horton's coffee in Canada.

I hate World's Fair Donuts. I hate them because they have delicious donuts that they make right there in the store fresh, hot and ready to eat. At nine damn thirty in the morning! What kind of donut shop buys crappy grocery store donuts to sell until they finally get around to making their own so that they can sleep in a few extra hours? I'll give you a hint, it's named after both their address and a very big event that happened here in the last century.

At this point, I'd rather have a Dunkin' Donuts, as much as that pains me to say.

Donuts don't make you fat. Eating lots and lots over donuts over time while not remaining physically active or maintaining an otherwise good diet makes you fat. Bring on the f'ing Dunkin'!

Exactly. I may have to stop in at World's Fair tomorrow morning and pick up a buttermilk cake donut - YUM!

^ That is a good reminder of the benefits of supporting local businesses and we do have some very good locally-owned donut shops across town, but downtown should be able to have the density to support both the local guy and the nationally-franchised chain.

I had heard that this site was going to be a Scooter Coffee drive thru. I guess Dunkin is going there instead. I also heard Dunkin was going to South Kingshighway... but I guess not both.

^ Looks like Scooters Coffee will open next week...it's further south. (At Christy replacing the old Payless Shoes that they tore down.)  Dunkin is replacing the building that orginally was a Rally's but last Jimmy Kavadis - Your Credit Man. It will be right next to the apartments at the cleared National Guard site if those ever get built.

Fence is up around the Jimmy Kavada's site.

No signage, but I assume Dunkin' is about to start building.

PostSep 23, 2024#122

Dunkin' is building and their structure went up very quickly.

I think it's going to be drive-thru only by the size of the building.
